Re: Shaman Cru-Wear Sprint Run release ?

This is getting silly. And no, this is not how Sprint runs used to be.

Spyderco: you are p*ssing a lot of faithful users and collectors off, with your new release/marketing/reveal strategy, me included. And you are actively encouraging what basically is scalping.

Bye.

Re: 4V Manix XL?

Oh yeah. Hollow ground and non-DLC, with marbeled CF would be phantastic :)

(to be honest, I'll buy it in any color combination)

Great insights, Sal, thanks for the write-up.

How about "1-knife" collaborations, like Hungarian, Chinook, Szabo, etc. ?

Re: Can custom para 3 scales be used with para 3 lightweight?

No. For one, (1) the screw heads are different (flat vs. 100 degree), (2) the normal Para 3 has an additional liner, and - (3) much like in the Manix 2 LW, from the pictures (don't own a Para 3), I assume that the LW Para 3 Pivot srews are T8, not T10 like in the normal Para 3 - meaning the Pivot is...

Re: Manix 2 XL blade play

Think about it: there doesn't need to be a screw (where the Manix 2 has one) if the pivot is adjusted right. Note that the XL - compared to the Manix 2 - has an additional scale screw and standoff where it matters, closer to the lanyard tube (that in the Manix 2 holds the scales together simply by f...

Re: Sell me the Amalgam !

The blade shape is _very_ practical, for example in the kitchen.

The only thing that bugged me is the flipper hitting my finger, so I modded mine adding a smock-like button, you've probably seen my respective posts. With that mod it's one of my favorites now.

Re: Your toughest Spyderco Folder

In reality it is probably my Manix 2 Cruwear, but I treat my Manix 2 M4 as if it is a tough knife. M4 is pretty tough. And quite a bit harder (61 vs 64-5 HRC ?). So great pick, if you don't need Cruwear's better corrosion resistance. In fact, I was debating to swap an M4 blade into my Native above ...

I am Curious what is the history on this construction method and who started it?

Thanks.
They found it’s a good place to hold your loose change
Perfect for change. Also perfect to stick in parts of other knives, flippers, etc.

Interesting that it took this many posts (referring to JD's post on the previous page) to bring up the Tuff :)
I did mention it in the OP :) It lost out compared to Ti Native as the blade is almost 4" long. Love the knife though.

Is this limited to folding knives?

I would say the Ankerson/Sanders Bowie in 4V steel is my toughest spyderco by far.

In a folder, the backlock Manix, with the Shaman a runner up.
Yes, I had folders in my mind. Sorry for not mentioning it in the OP (just corrected).

Re: Your toughest Spyderco

I would think about the overall construction of the knife before I focus too much on steel. Just because a knife has a well known tough steel doesn't mean the KNIFE will be tougher overall than another model. Agree with all your points ... the reason why I picked the Native over Chinook (1 and 4), ...

Re: Your toughest Spyderco

I have only two and I'd guess both are very though, can't decide! 1. Native 5 CPM Cruwear: For the same reasons you mentioned. Btw. fantastic scale swap there... I hope Flytanium or someone other will offer AM titanium scales for it. 2. Pac Salt SE: H1 is very unlikely to break, minimal distal tape...

Your toughest Spyderco Folder

Knife/Folder toughness overall is subjective, as it depends on what you use your knives for. You might think I'd pick my Tuff or Chinook 1. But no, I consider this my toughest Spyderco: https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-68xPqHN/0/23bb0bfd/X3/i-68xPqHN-X3.jpg Why: the shorter the blade, the tougher...

Re: Corrosion Testing of 9 Stainless Knife Steels

Very nice, Larrin, thanks for the study and posting. Amazing to me (1) how well s110v holds up (always felt M390 was close), how similar CPM Cruwear and 3V continue to be, and that CPM Cruwear is more corrosion resistant than ZDP, among others ... I have seen rusted XHP knife tangs and ice skates, s...
