Need help to identify a Lakota Hawk

In the mid to late 80’s Mom and I bought Dad a knife he liked called a Lakota Hawk.
I hear it should say Seki or Moki on the blade but it just says Japan. Also, it should say 440 Stainless or Aus8 and it does not. Just Lakota Hawk, U.S. patent number, and Japan.
Beyond that most I have seen has a ...

Foiled again!

Well There I was, leaving Wal Mart and saw a guy cursing a knotted piece of rope on his bedrails trying to tie something down. All I had in my pocket was a titanium Chaparral Spyderco.

I planned on leaping over a row of shopping carts, dodging a car going one way, sliding over the next cars hood ...

Re: Please talk me into a military or para military

Ponder this first... Do you want the longest possible handle plus a finger choil and some cutting edge as an afterthought? Before you spend. Look at these. A Gale Bradley2 is vastly better with a fantastic steel (m4) as standard. I had 9 para 2 knives, now I have one just ao I can say I have one ...

Re: Golden made no choil knife - edge all the way to handle

As I have the Gayle Bradley2 and several other 3.75 inch blades with the cutting edge all the way back with M4 or 20cv and titanium I REALLY want a 3 inch the same. Titanium and an M4 or cts-xhp or similar blade with no front choil.

I DIRELY wanted to love the brouwer till I looked at the lack of ...

Re: Golden made no choil knife - edge all the way to handle

I have asked time and again for more cutting edge. Especially in a 3” or under and hopefully no spyder hump.

I was so worked up for the brouwer until its blade had the cutting edge reduced so much.

I had over 40 spyderco knives, now I have 4. I am selling them for other brands. I have ...

Re: 10V Patina

I live where they salt the roads daily and it rains a lot and found even with oil my Maxamet native was turning black and had spots on it so I never carried my Maxamet para 2 or 3. Not a single time did they get out. I traded them both for a titanium ZT0562 and actually carry the thing! I did not ...

Re: Back locks with edges going all the way to the handle

For the record I'm the guy that's fighting for this change, but I completely agree with Sal, the blade still needs to be able to drop closed without cutting your finger. There are already decades of models being produced with too many people who have developed muscle memory closing their knives ...

Re: Back locks with edges going all the way to the handle

I just had a thought about optimization of blade length as well. I notice that lanyard tubes add a ton of length to handles and limit shapes like wharnclife blade styles, so that would be absent in my ideal blade. But with the mention of dropping on your finger I do not buy into that.

How many ...

Re: Back locks with edges going all the way to the handle

I am incredibly eager to see this rock-jumper model! I have no idea what it is but if it was around 3” with full cutting edge and high end handle/blade steel combination I will get a couple for sure.
I cannot imagine a new lock so this is exiting as well.
I have seen that a flipper makes good ...

Re: Back locks with edges going all the way to the handle

Hi Robishere,

ZT makes very good knives. Different designs than ours, but good designs and good quality. Though the designs you are speaking of I do not believe are Back-locks?

You are completely correct Sal. Now Mack in my days the 3 bladed buck stockman was a pocket clip with a stag ...

Re: Back locks with edges going all the way to the handle

I used to have 5 para 2, now I have one. So what if a zt titanium is $450 Canadian in stores?

The leverage I get putting my thumb farther up and longer cutting edge vastly beats the finger choil. Believe it ot not the zt blade is not as tall as the para2.

The frame lock plus dual lock studs plus ...

Re: Back locks with edges going all the way to the handle

Sal I have seen the endura offered in higher end metals, with plastic handles. I have purchased the Gayle Bradley2 with a stunning handle and m4. The southard and chef are in great steel with great handles. All of these knives are pushing 4 inches.

Other than a plastic delica and tenacious there ...

Re: Back locks with edges going all the way to the handle

I personally never use the "let the blade drop on your finger" closing method, and so would not need a (hidden or not) Ricasso at all (but I get that many others like this method!).

So one of my dream knives would be a Delica with:

a) an edge all the way to the handle and
b) a blade that ...

Re: Back locks with edges going all the way to the handle

I LOVE this idea. Sad as it is I got rid of all 4 para3 models I had and have a lone m390 titanium para2.
Why? I found I liked cutting length over “choking up” simply to accommodate being unable to move my thumb up due to a spydie hump.....hence shorten the blade and add a choil.
Here is my ...

Re: What are your favorite ~3.5 inch/ ~3 inch edge 50/50 choil Spydercos and why?

Correction, I still have a para2 in M390 and titanium and it has a finger choil.

But do I use the para2? Maybe I carry it to show someone but hardly at all for use. It is rare. Look at the usability of the ZT and Gayle Bradley2!!! The cutting edge is far longer and the guard doesn’t make ...

Re: What are your favorite ~3.5 inch/ ~3 inch edge 50/50 choil Spydercos and why?

Only my native and my titanium chaparral have finger choils. Beyond that I got rid of choils.

I got tired of sharpening into the “guard” where the steel is thicker, I got tired of the guard getting in my way with round things.

Anything bigger than my native 5 no longer has a finger choil. If I ...

Re: Your top 10 why?

This is interesting.

It seems that the vast majority are a 3 inch blade or smaller, and 85% or more are super steels like M4, Cruwear, cpm20cv, rex45, M390 etc.

There seems to be very little s30v, vg-10, and the ho hum steels and very little of the S90v and s110v.

I am thinking the users out ...
