Among the production Spydercos I own, the Chaparral wins. Hard to beat a 2mm thick FFG blade that's ground thin behind the edge. Next in line would be the Caly/Calypso family, with the exception of the SS Calypso Jr. How do you think the old full size Dyad (is it the C46) plain blade would compare ...

Bingo. The price of something literally boils down to what people are willing to pay to get it. It's as simple as that. People will spend $400 for one, so they sell them for that. I don't get it myself, but to each his own right? Or not, bingo. It might not be something you get right away, it wasn'...

Another Surefire nut over this way. The 6P's are affordable and if you like the E2DL, why not a plain jane E2e? Incandescent may not be the latest and greatest, but they are affordable and a warm light that no LED can hope to replicate. They even appear as a regular, ho-hum flashlight. :) A nice sin...

Three things to remember as mentioned to myself from an old biker (Mick); 1) If you can't drive a car there, don't ride there either, think of the bike as any other motor vehicle, 2) Never trust anyone other than another motorcycle, people in cars will look in your eyes, and then pull out in front o...

For a few years I was trying to steel up the nerve to buy one and I kept thinking along the lines of what Joe has posted. For the price they command, it just wasn't happening. The fact you have to source out a sheath is abit of leg work, I guess you get exactly what you want that way though. I accid...

There's more to building them than meets the eye. My oldest girl and I built one and needed to keep reinforcing the pivot, the counterwieght attachment, and then we were only so-so in our release mechanism. The throwing arm was about 4' and we had about 40# for weights. Going to need to study up som...

Hi Casey, have you checked the other handle screws to make sure they are properly tightened? Just wondering if you loosen the pivot bolt, and then ensure the other screws are snugged up to ensure squareness of the knife frame, and then adjusted pivot tension, you might have better pivot consistency....

It's just marketing. Most people nowadays never worked with metals so they will believe anything. And people love to hear that they are buying something very special. Ti has its place in the aerospace industry but for many other applications it is a bit of a hype. Thanks for the honesty Piet, don't...

I've supported both the online merchant and the knife store that is about 120 some miles from me. I have however paid whatever he asked, even for the CRK, and never left the shop without...

Hi Jon. There are a number of "steel heads" on the forum that would post better comments than I. Let's hope Joe or some of the other folks see the thread and chime in. If I ever got a chance to try some that would be a fun experience, or very frustrating. I grind a little 3V from time to t...

The "downside" of that is that even 1/4" drivers tend to be fairly large and, the bigger the handle, the greater the leverage and the easier it becomes to use excessive force. That's the main reason some good sets put smaller handles on smaller size wrenches. One way to compensate fo...

Don't have many, but do have a Swisstool, the soldier in alox, and a climber. The multi tool and the soldier see lots of use.
