Well, I guess I'm going against the grain here and being stubborn, but after looking at my old :spyder: 'minimag, I think that I'll have to go with the 701MF :o Keep in mind that I'm trying to find the right tool for serrations . The 204 looks like a great assisted sharpener for PEs, but the 701's ...

I reasoned, if my chef's knife is going to last for decades I should buy one I like to look at. So recently I bought a Shun 8" Chef's knife, which is a VG-10 core with SUS410 "Damascus" layering on the sides. I like the handle shape and it looks very well constructed, I am confident ...

I'm about ready to say that I don't like the painted clips ... Makes the knife look old before it's time ... I dunno .... I've gotta give this some more thought though. I'm not sure I like shiny either .... see ... more thought .. My favorite clip is the CalyJr blasted grey clip. I'm NOT a fan of t...

Thanks for the info guys, I think I'll get one with a nice Blue handle to ride in opposite pocket of my Delica. I've actually been considering replacing my Delica with a Calypso JR., Vesuvius, or Native (don't have any one of the three currently). Any thoughts on any of those in PE vs. the Delica P...

It is my understanding that Globals are not forged. They are stamped & ground (AUS-6) Steel wise, for edge retension, MBS-26 tested better (in our lab) than any other stainless kitchen knife steel we tested. That's why we use it. sal Sal, How does it compare to your VG-10? Seems they have a sim...

Thank you oh wise ones. Most informative and the Sharpmaker it is for me. I like the overall package for the Sharpmaker and I won't be doing any severe resharpening so the Lansky seems overkill. Are the extra fine stones better than a leather strop for that final finish? The UF stones make an extre...

Just curious how the spyderco kitchen knives compare to knives from established kitchen cutlery companies like wusthof, henckels, global. I'm sure Spydercos are better than the stamped lower end, but how about the forged lines like classic / five star (I don't think that global has a forged line)? ...

Just spent the last 2 days playing with a friends 206 sharpening anything that didn't move quick enough. I never realised how blunt things had become and what a pleasure it was to have things factory sharp again. Before I jump in and get one what is the forums opinion on the competitor in the Lansk...

Here's the deal: The :spyder: 204 works great for all kinds of oddball things, especially serrations and hawkbill blades. It puts a wicked finished edge on anything, provided you use the right angles. However, the 204 medium (brown) stones are just not agressive enough to repair a bad or really thic...

I believe that a smaller hawkbill (think: Cricket Stainless) would be a *wonderful* EDC. A blade about 2 - 2.5", frame lock, thin blade and stainless handles for starters. I would keep this blade on my person while I *slept* were it available. I would buy three today sight unseen. A 50/50 Spyd...

I like to take the edge to 30 degrees (15 per side) or less. Then I strop on 250, 300 and finally 600 grit Aluminum Oxide wet/dry paper on a mouse pad to smooth out the shoulder and the edge. Then I go back to the 30 or 40 sharpmaker and put a small, even edge bevel on it, working down to the Ultraf...

To clarify. When you use a stone, you get the angle needed and push the blade edge first. When you strop, it is the opposite, you "pull" with the spine first, or "edge trailing", and you keep the proper angle (usually close to what you used on the stones). This is usually done on...

Serrations remove material in a hurry, they work better on anything tough. Unfortunately they can be too destructive to softer materials or in making precise cuts. IMHO, you need both. That's why I think the dyad was a neat design. A well sharpened PE blade will blast through tensioned rope just as ...

Kopa release

Has anyone obtained a Kopa yet? Will they be available from major online stores or are they so limited that they will have to be special ordered from B&M stores?
I already missed out on a chance at the UK Penknife. :(
