Re: Question about late 70's early 80's items?

Did Lansky buy the idea from Spyderco? Coz they also have a crock stick if I haven't mistaken Not too sure but I do know that Spyderco sold the rights to the Fold-A-Vee in 1980 to Lansky. Rich (Candyman) I don't know about a 1980 sale to Lansky, as I have a mid-80's Spyderco catalog with the "...

Re: Question about late 70's early 80's items?

I have purchased 2 items and had a couple questions about the items if anyone could possibly help. First is a 2 screw right handed worker. It has got engravings on it and I was wondering if any type of engravings were done at the factory on these or was it done aftermarket. Second is model #103 cro...

Re: Spyderco Archaeology

I am very much looking forward to your next contribution to this thread! Cheers, H2 Thank you, but I'm afraid I don't have much truly 'old and obscure' stuff, especially not contributions that could match your caliber! Greetings Mr. Blonde, You are far too modest. We both know you always have your ...

Re: Stolen package after warranty service

UPS and FEDEX drivers are notorious thieves -- long before the rise of the lowlife "porch pirates". This is why a non-FFL can only ship a handgun via Next Day Air (Red Label) or Overnight delivery via UPS and FEDEX. Too many handguns were stolen by their drivers as pistol boxes are easily ...

Re: Ceramic Knives: I know you're all aching for practical versions!

SEF, In all deference, do you actually believe industrial manufacturers are **** bent on researching and bringing to market "super materials" to improve the longevity of and to achieve higher, across-the-board performances of their products? I do not. All I see, for the most part, is plann...

These are pretty amazing artifacts. Re: Rough idea on age of a Spyderco Whetstone

Rich, Nice find! Sal is right. These stones are from the mid-'80s. I have a number of the same ones. Spyderco also made other stones in Redwood. For instance, do you have item #: 301VF, too? (Very Fine Grit Bench Stone - 2"x4"x1/2" White stone ground flat to .0005. Custom Redwood Box....

Re: Neat French Tactical Knives: Michael Janich and others: Have you seen these?

But let me play the advocate for this for a moment. Do you deny or not, that if a person had this self defense tool, either the steel or the tough plastic version, (sharpened ABS point and edge with that tanto chisel edge) and if they hit the attacker in the face, throat, and other areas, they woul...

Re: Neat French Tactical Knives: Michael Janich and others: Have you seen these?

I'm really having a difficult time imagining myself having or using those things back when I was a cop. It's tough getting over the ugly factor too. Joe Joe, back then, if a civilian who had no experience with serious martial arts or combat defensive training had asked your advice and said "Of...

Re: Neat French Tactical Knives: Michael Janich and others: Have you seen these?

Meh. It's a cumbersome, unwieldly gimmick, IMHO. Nothing more. If you are justified in using deadly force, then shoot or stab the attacker until neutralized. You know, "lather, rinse, repeat." If not, then do not. Simple. Why poke a car jacker with a snubnosed, plastic, pistol-shaped knife...

Re: Diving Knives: Your choices?

SEF, You know the old adage: "Two is one and one is none," right? Well, when you are underwater redundancy is paramount. As such, I would not think in terms of a diving knife, but rather in terms of diving knives. Personally, I carry a SE Aqua Salt w/lanyard on my BC; a SE Pacific Salt cli...

Bravo and Hattori Hanzo, great ideas! When you say got grinder, what do you mean? Hey Rich, This is a partial list of "grail" Spyderco knives, "KSO's" (Knife-Shaped Objects), and project prototypes that I have had the privilege to handle in person, which I would love to own: 1. Handmade Eyze Pick proto-prototype; 2. Handmade pair of serrated chicken knives; 3....
