Re: What caused these permanent stains/etches on my CTS-XHP steel Spyderco Techno?

Don't bother trying to polish out the stains or pitting unless your intent is to remove the original finish on the entire blade - which includes the original laser etching as well. The natural tendency is to use less polishing effort on the factory markings, the end result just making it obvious tha...

Re: does Spydie want us to report fakes?

Sadly, I personally know of at least three instances of individuals who have corrupted the intent of "Report It" sites or similarly well-intentioned manufacturer forum threads and have instead used them as a means to be notified of available "bargains." It's entirely possible tha...

Re: Can you buy a Nirvana without lock stick now?

I just returned a Nirvana back to Amazon because of the worst Ti-to-Ti lock stick I've experienced in ten years, so clearly getting an acceptable sample remains a crapshoot. I suspect that the situation will remain as long as dissatisfied customers return sticky samples back to sellers who will then...

Re: Your Favorite Obscure Spyder

Obscure? I'd have to put forth my plain-edge micarta C54 Calypso. Even today it takes some doing to find a classier 4" folding knife that carries so lightly and is so pleasingly svelte. I have to confess to owning three of its brown G10 sprint run reincarnation, but it's really an entirely diff...

Tatanka: what can I say? It's a big piece of . . . steel! Practical for me it ain't, but it's just fun to own the biggest in someone's product line. May the PowerLock make its appearance elsewhere.

Re: Good or bad, biggest surprise of 2014?

Best, and a most pleasing surprise, was how improved the 2014-made Terzuola Starmate was in contrast to its 2013-made brother. All the earlier shortcomings were addressed including the dreaded and most commented upon rough finish. It's nice to see Seki turning out nice pieces again.

Re: Last Spyderco purchased in 2014

Last for the year was a pair of Lil' Matriarchs - I would've gotten ten more but female friends and potential Spydie fans were turned off by the (blah, hohum) basic black of the FRN handles; a purple and especially a pink version for 2015 would be most welcome.

Re: Rick Hinderer Collab?

The ZT 0770 (I have all three variants) is great slicer for those with smaller hands. It's all the more appealing with the recent holiday price drops. But beware, the aluminum handled original is a tad slippery.

Re: ZT

Anyone looking for an 0561 for $164.25 can find them available at the "Big River." With free S&H thrown in, this seems to be a very decent offer. It's uncertain how stable this price will be.

Happy Holidays!

Re: Post dealer deals here.

Be careful about Amazon's low ($170.99) price for the brown Southard. Even though "free shipping" was selected, I was charged $10.10 S&H. Resolution of this issue is pending.

Over the years six C49s have crossed my path: #s 1 & 2 were both PE and purchased mail order at $54.95 as closeout items from Nationwide Sports Distributors (now defunct). I cherry picked the nicer of the two and sold the other at my workplace for $70.00. #s 3 & 4 were also PE models and pur...

C48 Wegner with VG-10, nested liners, (slightly) enlarged Spyder Hole, a less "abruptly sticky" (read dangerous) ball detent and updated liner lock geometry (to preclude that bane of the old Wegner , the "liner-travels-all-the-way-across" malady. Consider this one a pipe dream si...

Just curious, but exactly which Spyderco model are you comparing the 555 Mini Griptilian to? And exacty what's "crappy" about the Axis lock? Does it have to do with reliability/safety, smoothness or ergonomics?

Again, just curious that's all.

Hard to fathom eBay (sorry, couldn't resist temptation) even at the best of times. I suspect that at least a few times auction descriptions such as "rare" and "unusual" were taken by bidders at face value. Myself, I'm still somewhat surprised there are still so many "1st Gen...
