Re: AI art knows Spyderco

I can see a bunch of legal issues with AI. Patents and trademarks, etc. sal This is already a big issue in many industries including mine. The question is whether the output of the AI is the actual end product or just a tool/resource used to produce something. Where do designers get inspiration? Ar...

Re: Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2024 Report

I really like k390 so I think I will really like 15V, based on the information on the forums. Good excuse to get my first para 3. I believe you'd be extremely hard-pressed to find something not to like about 15V if you really like K390. I find 15V a noticeable step-up, IMO/IME. I suppose now I'll h...

Re: Spyderco 50th Anniversary Knife?

I think the 50th anniversary should commemorate a special edition SharpMaker; being as Spyderco, "First made things sharp, before making sharp things".

Re: Manix 2 Lightweight CPM-15V – Spyderco Design Production Sample 2024

Fun fact, to me at least, veteran Spyderco crewmember Lisa came up with the name Manix many years ago. Had to quote this bit; as it is interesting to finally know. It's nice to see some of the other folks in the Spyderco crew get some recognition, "from the shadows". I wonder where the in...

Re: Military 2 CPM-15V – Spyderco Design Production Sample 2024

Up first in this report, is the Military 2 in CPM-15V. :O :exploding-head :hugging-face I believe this knife will wrap up my Spyderco purchases indefinitely, aside future Mule Teams. To hear that this may be regular production is astounding. Thank you sal, Gail, Eric, Shawn, and all at Spyderco; an...

Re: AI art knows Spyderco

Yes, I am concerned software will make mistakes, Are you concerned humans will make mistakes? The concern is understandable but keep in mind software is infinitely more testable and verifiable than humans are. but the worst part of it is that the responsibility for mistakes is removed. I’m not sure...

Re: Weird streaks/scratch in DLC?

That won't "buff out", will only get worse the more you mess with it. Sometimes metal gets embedded in the DLC finish, but that looks like the DLC finish itself was ground/sanded off. I honestly think it looks good, and vote that you just use it as it is. S30V doesn't need the coating to ...

Re: Upping the price.

Ok here's the other knife that stood out as I was searching the current state of inexpensive but good knives. It's a Miguron Moyarl, crossbar (Axis) lock version. 14C28N blade, micarta scales, titanium clip. $70 street price. https://i.imgur.com/ZBQcEP2l.jpg https://i.imgur.com/Iyr5Nybl.jpg https:/...

Re: Upping the price.

Perhaps the main focus here is that folks want more quantity for their money, versus more quality , which would require more money to obtain the same amount of objects? We all have our personal choices, but to somehow make Spyderco at fault because you don't see the value in buying 2 or 3 Spydercos,...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal

Thanks for keeping Cliff alive, T.S. I think if your overall aim is to microbevel to establish an apex, it is rather easy/simple to avoid burr formation, however, it is much more difficult to completely nullify the formation of a burr when sharpening the secondary bevel to form an apex. I believe a ...

Re: Sal, anything you´d like to share on the Golden made BACKLOCK Polestar? (Another "handle forward" knife?)

Regardless of its strengths, I feel the backlock is seen as "outdated", anymore. People love to fidget with their knives, and no matter how against that concept anyone may be, it simply has become a direct selling point for many folks currently interested in locking pocket knives. The back...

Re: Calypso Jr Sprint Run Considerations

It’s nice seeing many interested in this classy knife. Here are some comparison shots of the jr from me. My ultimate opinion on the changes proposed is, I don’t dislike the idea of change but the ones proposed doesn’t suit my preference and I think for the knife that it is. It’s perfect. The bigges...

Re: Calypso Jr Sprint Run Considerations

Uh, since when is an enhancement, not a form of improvement? You reference the Delica that has had four iterations since its existence. The Caly Jr has had one iteration, over the span of 27 years. This is not a direct comparison to prove your point, and discredit all other discussion. Lastly, you ...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal

Not to be annoying: but how large of a burr do you need? I saw some YouTube videos where the burr is so big they can break it off with their fingers. Mine never gets that large, no matter how much I sharpen on one side You can break a burr at any rate if you are uncareful, or otherwise clumsy. You ...

Re: Upping the price.

Not so hot on the idea of CF scales, but I am interested in these upcoming models. Hi Weeping Minora, The carbon fiber scales are just for prototypes to be able to carry and use the models. If and when we decide to make them, maybe in Golden, I'll be asking for opinions on steel and handle? sal ___...

Re: Calypso Jr Sprint Run Considerations

Not convinced by the arguments above, because Spyderco has been evolving its classic designs in thoughtful directions for decades, and I would call those evolutions, improvements. Look at an original Delica and the current Delica. You could opine the changes are not improvements, they're just chang...

Re: Does side to side blade play matter?

Side-to-side play only gets worse, IME. Back-lock lock-rock (up/down or back/forth) is present in some of my Seki models, though never seems to be unavoidable if it does occur. Ultimately, you and your preferences/comforts will tell you what you need to know about how you feel about it.

Re: Calypso Jr Sprint Run Considerations

Right, we agree it’s all a matter of opinion in this scenario. You think changing to screw construction and removing the sharpening choil is objectively superior quality.. I don’t think that’s objective. I prefer pinned construction and a sharpening notch for this model and think it is a superior d...
