Re: Wood Knife Handle Maintenance?

All the old butchers knives I have inherited or have I use mineral oil. Also use it on the full size butchers block I have as a island in the kitchen.

Re: Mule Team sheaths

Boltaron sheath is my preferred. Have carried clip off in leg pocket of cargo pants that I have that it fits just as much.

Boltaron scout carry works well with a few other scales besides Spyderco bought ones.

Re: Do we do people disservice?

When I have that conversation with someone that wants a real knife I always start with a Spyderco Delica. Had two guys at work that started with the Delica then the next conversation came up... What next. Took in a GB1 and a PM2. Oddly one bought a PM2 S35V and the other bought a GB2 The GB2 guy now...

Re: SEX! (bolts)

As a total noob, I appreciate the space to have this discussion with like minded folk. At least I feel like I'm on the right track and that my ideas aren't way out in left field. I was thinking that a 3/16" endmill would be about right as well. Any idea what the diameter of the screw heads are? You...

Re: SEX! (bolts)

Most will agree it’s which of the 5 or 6 type of bolts you have. Also which of the 5 drill bits to use. That’s after you have bought the wrong bolts with the right bolts because you always buy 3 types. Definitely. I swear I have every single color and size combination at this point. I even bought s...

For myself it’s not a matter of which bolts until you have worked out thickness colour.

Re: Retire The PM2?

Go back to Shaman island.

Don't like the Shaman, can't work out the fuss. It's just a native 5 with a weird piece missing from a perfectly good scale ?

Re: Wood for scales

I’ve been trying to do more reading about tamarack as I’m almost positive that’s what it is. It seems that it’s a great wood for use in wet conditions. I know as I was cutting it it has an almost waxy texture to it. I think the only thing to do is try it. Perhaps one of my next days off I’ll try to...

Re: My growing love for the Para3

Find the Para 3 in S30V a great knife for just about anything. No need to baby the standard model that can easily be replaced any day of the week. Sprints tend to get used less due to replacement factor. A bit like a Delica or more like 5-6 is a common knife sitting all around the house and garage ...

Re: Wood for scales

I would soak in mineral oil for a week. Take out and dry on a few pieces of dowel for a week. Should be fine being as old as it is. (It is a softwood which I would tend not to use) I try to stick to the rule of the top 33 / 25% of the Janka hardness scale is OK without stabilisation. Tamarack has a ...

Re: Mule Team Connections - Curiosity

I joined due to Spyderco knives but would say I’m here for the Mule now. More of a fixed blade guy now and the mule gives me the fixed blade in the size I am happy with. Starting to make scales for them as a hobby. A few members here are super helpful and have taught me a bit already (and I’m happy ...

Re: We already have the solution. Now what we need is to find the problem

Knives, Pens and flashlights 3 things I use most at work, I never balk at spending money on them. Also enjoy having several of them probably in the order above of most of to least of. And for Chris I’m a flip flop guy 9/10 living tropical so everything is worth more than my shoes... It has always i...

Re: We already have the solution. Now what we need is to find the problem

Absolutely! I don’t know about anyone else, but I will balk at spending 00’s on tools I regularly use, but not on knives I rarely use. Here’s another question .... what cost more? The shoes you are wearing or the knife in your pocket?! Knives, Pens and flashlights 3 things I use most at work, I nev...

Re: About that food prep ...

Test mules in food prep. Have boned more legs of lamb with a mule the last few years than with a butchers knife that I have several of. Being to Japan with work a few times I have the Japanese kitchen knives but it’s just more fun using something smaller and fun. Just had 2 months overseas with work...

I just buy a few custom fixed blades to slow my Spyderco buying up a little. It’s working great :p :p
