Re: POLL: More Atlantic Salt versions (leafshape, drop point...) based on its already existing, very "pm2-ish" handle?

I love this handle and would be very interested in any alternate bladeshapes that utilize it. It's very similar to the handle of my '98 Rescue, aside from the shackle key, and the '98 Rescue is the ergonomically best of all the Spydercos I've had a chance to check out. I'd be happiest to see it in a...

Re: Just for fun. What configuration?

Lightweight serrated sheepsfoot Amalgam with thinner bladestock, no liners, gray FRN, and DLC coating. I'd take it in a plainedge version as well.

Re: Boye dent poll. Let your voice be heard or be a sheep in a herd.

I like the Boye dent on most knives. Some, like the Native 5, look better without. I won't be too bothered either way though; even if they remove it, that's nothing that can't be fixed with some power tools. :spyder:

Re: Hello all

Hello and welcome! Nice to see another person around here who appreciates the old Rescues. Mine is the slightly newer version with the metal clip, but it's still old enough to have the patent info stamped into the clip, and it's my coolest knife. :) :spyder: Looking forward to seeing the next additi...

Re: EDC vs WEDC

My Police LW and my serrated Pac Salt 1 live in my work bag. The Police is thin and zips right through cardboard, and the Pac Salt mostly sees use as a makeshift screwdriver unless I come across some tough fibrous material that a serrated edge would work best on. For home carry, I have the Amalgam a...

Re: Would like suggestions on Spyderco's to look at next

Looks like you enjoy larger knives with broader blades. In that case, everyone's suggestion of the Manix XL is probably a good one, although I can't speak to it myself because the handle ergonomics just don't mesh with my smaller hands. The Amalgam is an excellent knife with a cool backstory, and is...

Re: New here & just bought 3 knives

Hello and welcome! :spyder: As another female person with very petite hands, I've found that the size of the overall knife doesn't matter to me as much as the ergonomics of the handle. I wanted to love the Manix, but the contouring and finger choils were just set too wide apart and I couldn't get a ...

Sheepsfoot PM2?

...This might actually convince me to buy a PM2. Sheepsfoot blades are so useful and awesome.

Re: Help Me spend my money...Southard or Advocate

You can always grind a blade shorter. How about pick a knife based on the handle ergonomics and the other aspects you want, and then shorten the blade to your liking, if necessary? Got no advice about the Southard-vs-Advocate question, just wanted to point out that knife mods are a thing that is pos...

Re: 2021 Spyderco Forum Calendar Contest!

https://i.imgur.com/WLmT0cQ.jpg The serrated one is an early edition of the Spyderco Rescue (released in 1998, I believe); the other, the Spyderco Amalgam, was released 20 years later. I bought the Rescue a couple years back, and it arrived brand-new, in the box, with all the original paperwork, an...

Re: First time you saw a Sypderco?

Went looking online for a serrated knife because serrated knives are epic, and also I knew I liked knives but really wasn't feeling the Benchmade my Dad had bought me a few years back. Read lots of reviews, discovered Spyderco, decided on the full-serrated blackout lightweight Native, traded the Ben...

Re: Shaman mini-skinny chop

After seeing the awesomeness of this and that other knife you did the mini-skinny chop to, I need to get an extra Amalgam and send it to you :D I've been wanting a sheepsfoot Amalgam so bad, and this would be a way to sort-of get one.

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??

After buying a few Spydercos last year I find that I mostly carry the PM2 S35VN and the Endura SE Wharncliffe depending on what I am doing. During the rainy winter working outdoors I was often carrying my Pacific Salt SE. I have a PM3 S35VN but the blade seems too stubby. The PM2 feels like the per...

Re: Spyderco Photo of the Week Contest!

:D Thank you! Congrats JuPaul, I really like the green light reflected on the blade and the tree trunk. For my submission this week I'm using another photo from the same session as my last photo. I'm very happy with the way the dramatic shadow makes a second line of teeth on the wall behind the Resc...

Re: Let's get hyped for the Amalgam!

I'd like one with DLC blade and hardware, and light gray scales, like that Manix sprint that was floating around for a while. Or translucent natural G10 scales with a DLC blade. Or DLC with marbled carbon fiber. ...If they make any variant of this in DLC I will buy it. While I'm on a roll wishing fo...

Finally have a good pic of the pair that's replaced the Natives I posted above as my favorites. https://i.imgur.com/UWYKu4j.jpg https://i.imgur.com/WLmT0cQ.jpg And my current favorites. The Rescue is the same as the one in the previous photo, the Amalgam is new. Both knives were released 20 years a...

I love Sprint Runs, Flash Batches, dealer Exclusives, all those limited-edition fancy knives. It's so cool to see the different colors, blade shapes and coatings, steel types... I can second the recommendation for Blade Runner Knives -- awesome place, awesome owners, able to order knives for you if they don't have them in stock, bought several Spydies from them. Don't remember what they carry in the way of kitchen knives because I never pay attention to kitchen knives anywa...
