Re: which is your ergonomic masterpiece?

ERGONOMICS “is an applied science concerned with designing things people use so that the people and things interact most efficiently and safely.” (Merriam-Webster). Generally Spyderco does an outstanding job designing their folding knives ergonomically. This does not mean that the Chief that “feels ...

Re: Do we really need a finger choil ?

The Spyderco’s that I use ALL have finger choils. The ones that don’t have choils don’t get used. So, I guess I like finger choils. You give up some edge for way better control. There is also a big advantage that a collector might miss. With my fat index finger on the choil any goo that is on what I...

Re: Looking to upgrade

Think about what it means to “upgrade”. A folding knife has 2 major parts. One is the blade and the other is the handle. When I could afford to upgrade my Native Chief I tried to find the very best steel and the very best handle available in that model. Why? Because the Chief feels good in my XL han...

Re: Looking at "Vivi edges" with a VHX-6000 digital microscope

Thanks for such an educational post. So cool. It does beg a question. Your edges seem to indicate that stone moved perpendicular to the edge giving a fine serrated finish. Have you ever looked at an edge that a SharpMaker produces? Could you possibly share that?

Re: Does anyone use a S90V blade?

Thanks guys. I really appreciate your incites. I learned some neat things here. It surprised me that a guy with little sharpening skill could make a super steel like S90V work so well with just a SharpMaker. Glad I’m not the only one. Thanks to the men and women in Golden, Colorado who designed, eng...

Does anyone use a S90V blade?

After searching Forum archives on S90V steel I have come up with 2 attributes. One, it is hard to sharpen. Two, it holds an edge. In my experience, if you have diamond rods for your SharpMaker, S90V is NOT hard to sharpen. What really surprised me was that after working down from in rod grit from di...

Re: Sharpmaker handle S45/35VN?

Pcexbird: you will soon find there are guys on the forum that consider “sharpening” an art. There are others who consider sharpening a chore. Most of us are somewhere in the middle. All are here to have a good time. Unless you are a sharpening artist, the SharpMaker will do the job. Like me, you may...

Re: Left handed preference?

An almost accident pointed out to me a simple thing about folding knives. Closed they are safe. Open they can cut. My PM2 was closed on the kitchen table. I managed to clutz out and knock it to the floor. It hit the floor in such a way that the blade popped open. My 2 year old grandson scampered tow...

Re: Has any knife made you stop buying knives?

Almost! Once I got the Chief, I knew it was MY knife. But, but what if I lost it? So, I bought a spare. Then, I saw one for sale in S90v, so I bought it. It’s still NIB in the gun safe, but I have it. And so it goes. Spyderco makes knives that are a joy to own and use. So do it your way. It’s all go...

Re: When was the last time you washed your smelly sharpmaker stones

You know, ever since I learned that I got a sharper edge from using extremely light pressure on the Sharp Maker stones they don’t really load up fast. So, I haven’t cleaned them for way too long. Will correct that today. Thanks for the heads up.

Re: Which model has impacted your preferences the most?

the Native in Cruwear. Pros: American made. the lock spring holds the blade shut until you need it open. Offers safe one hand opening and closing with either hand. Tip down carry us possible. Good blade design. Great steel. Cons: It is little. But, its combination of great features led me to the Spy...

I don't own a wide variety of Spyderco folders, so I really cannot say what the best of the bunch is but I'm loving the 6 - Native Chiefs that I have.
Almost exactly what he said. I ONLY have 4 Chiefs. For me, this is the finest folding knife that I can buy.

Re: Your 2021 Spyderco Knife of the Year !

Getting the perfect knife is iffy when you have to buy on the web. BUT, when the Chief emerged from the box, my big paws new that they had found "The One". Big enough for any reasonable task and small enough to fit my pocket after a year of every day testing the Chief has a home. I have Ch...

Re: New pm2 : loctite on a washer ?

Again poor customer service response,,, the owner should be given a no cost return shipping credit and the knife be replaced. I have been a loyal customer of Spyderco for over 25 years, the customer service reply is very discouraging. Regards, FK Right on! Spyderco should be ashamed of this custome...

Re: First Compression Lock?

My first (and last) compression lock was the left hand PM2. This was (is) a great knife. I really liked it. My Granddaughter brought her 2 year old son to visit. I went to grab my belt on the kitchen table and knocked my PM2 onto the floor. When it hit the floor, the blade popped open about halfway....

Re: A question on Tip up or Tip down Set-ups

I'm an odd one. 80% of the time still dare to pocket carry lol. I prefer tip down for safety reasons being I had a Banchmade Griptillian open in my pocket 2 times once cutting me pretty good. Other than that tip down sucks. I carry tip up despite self cut risk because I can deploy a blade a bit qui...
