if I were to carry only one blade shape, it would have a belly.
To me, any material that requires a back and forth “sawing” motion will benefit from a belly, whereas if I’m doing a draw cut - a straight edged blade works better. They’re equivalent to me on push cuts.

My reasons are pretty simple. FFG and lightweight options. :)

Re: We need more Wharncliffes!
Ok. I’d like to see a 2 bladed knife like the dyad. One sheepfoot/wharncliffe in shape with a serrated edge and a leaf shaped plain edge blade.

Re: Tools For Sharpening Spyderedges: SE Blades in General
For serrations, I've got the spyderco sharpmaker 204 as the primary sharpener. On the go, I take with me a lansky triangular ceramic stick. To me, the lansky seems identical to the spyderco triangular stones, except half the length. At home I've also used the corners of my India stones as well as wa...

Re: Ultimate Edge Retention: Spyderedge vs Plain Edge
If I were to carry one blade it would be a plain edge. I don't have anything against serrated edges. I find that the majority of my cutting tasks do better with plain edge, flat or convex ground blades; with a blade with a point and a belly - preferably spear point shaped or leaf shaped. I find that...

Frankly, I think it's mostly to block their own kohl's employees from wasting too much time surfing the web for random topics not associated with work.

Re: Suggest me a knife
Is there a reason you want non-locking? I thought it was legal to carry a locking knife in Cali. TONS more knives out there if you don't absolutely need it to be non-locking. I do often frequent schools / public universities. I really can't remember correctly, but I think one of them allows locking...

Great news to me. The urban is certainly a top candidate.Nate wrote:Iirc, Sal indicated that futures runs of the Urban would be shortened to 2.5", but agree with others that it shouldn't be hard to just mod the current one down to that length.

Suggest me a knife
Love my dragonflys, especially the frn versions that are lightweight. Trying to stay as "legal" as possible. There are some location that I go that have a 3" limit, some a 2.5" limit, some places lock blades are ok, others not. Can you guys recommend to me a knife at the 2.5"...

Re: My simple technique for sharpening serrations
It's not often that I praise any sharpening tools other than Spyderco's and I do like most of them. But these VEFF sharpening tools for serrations are very interesting and I've heard good things about them. Not at all trying to detract from VIVI's great video or the content of his thread>> but not ...

Re: My simple technique for sharpening serrations
Do you guys use the 30 degree and 40 like a plain edge or one or the other? I put my sharpmaker in the 30 degree setting, but I don't look to go straight up and down. I put the corner of the stone flat onto the bevel by feel (which is close to the 30 degree angle) and draw through. On the backside,...

Re: Help with Dragonfly for EDC
I'm not sure what the big deal with rust is. A few hours soak in vinegar or evaporust should rid the rust and perhaps patina a blade a little. Nevertheless, I have the orange vg10pe and the serrated h1se. Both have worked well for their purposes, the vg10 being my current edc, while the serrated get...

Re: Why are PE knives twice as thick as SE?
I find this to be an interesting observation especially with what EVIL D and a couple of other Brethren have discovered and that being that Full Flat Grind blades with a Spyderedge tend to outperform their hollow grind counterparts. And you know that a Full Flat Grind is inherently thicker than mos...

Re: My simple technique for sharpening serrations
I've been sharpening similarly, although sometimes I flip and do the exactly opposite. Sharpening on the backside near parallel to the edge, and then taking off the burr on the front side with the corner of a strop. Wondering if anyone else out there does this?

Re: 'Field adjustable' screws
Since I take my wire clip on and off often, I subsitituted the male portion of the barrel bolt for the wire clip on my dragonfly 2 with a phillips/flat combination head screw. The original torx was a button head m3 x 0.5 x 5mm. I found a pan head m3 x 0.5 x 6mm fairly easily that worked perfectly. S...

Re: "Beater Knife" - I don't get it...
Not exactly sure I have a beater knife ... but I do have different categories of knives: My idea of the Loaner knife is the harbor freight gordon folding knife I have. It cost $3. Sharp enough to do one task before sharpening, dull enough for people not to hurt themselves. It's what I loan out to fo...

Re: Tasman for EDC and eating
My opinion on the hawksbill is that it will do fine with smaller fruits and vegetables. Apples, tomatoes, carrots, etc.
It does not do well with preparing beef, chicken, fish - the stuff that is squishy and deforms and moves around when you cut it. You want a belly on the knife.

Vg10 and H1 dragonfly clips the same?
Are the VG10 and H1 dragonfly clips the same?
I'm wondering because I've got one of each dragonfly and I think I've mixed the screws and clips up. Was wondering if the H1 clips and screws were different and more rust-proof / resistant than the VG10 clips or if they are identical?

Re: Pocket Clip - Risk & Benefit
I have 'knife' pockets sewn inside several of my pants pockets for this reason. About half of the slacks I have for work have a small interior pocket in the right front pocket that fits my pocket carry knives. The only problems with pocket carry for me are when wearing sweatpants, scrubs, or athlet...
