Re: It's Deadboxhero's Fault! K390

Nice, I remember when I got my first piece of folding K390 back in Fall 2017. K390 is great My Police 4 has gotten lots of use, still gets carried and enjoyed. This knife was a great investment. https://i.imgur.com/RbRyoDi.jpeg How many of us looked straight at the smoothness of that edge bevel? :b...

Re: It's Deadboxhero's Fault! K390

That is a fine looking knife Eli. Nice customization. I'm jealous you're that close to Casey, big fan of his work. K390 is a favorite of mine too. And of course Shawn has influenced many of us in the knife community not just here on the forum, from vitrified diamonds stones, geometry and heat treat...

It's Deadboxhero's Fault! K390

One wouldn't have to look too hard around here to find me saying that I wasn't going to get any K390. For convenience, I generally like stainless in my folders but moreover, for the past couple years, I've been enjoying messing with the geometry on my "simpler" knives (BD1, VG10, etc.). Bu...

Re: MagnaCut Corrosion Resistance testing thread

Warstein is correct. When we're working with new material, we like to test the material and also let the maker/partner learn how to work it. It's been a MagnCut test piece that I've been using quite a bit. Very nice all around blade steel. Thanx Larrin, Crucible, Niagara and Larrin's Dad. What mode...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal

This is a common error when following the overused instruction to "sharpen one side on coarse stone until you feel a burr,,,, then go to opposite side until a burr is formed". Very commonly this leads to offset apex with relation to center line of blade, especially with dull knives. I rea...

Re: CPM MagnaCut | Edge Performance

Sure, with the M390 family being one of the more popular and coveted stainless steels in recent years, they typically give up some toughness as a trade-off. But that's not uncommon at all, and in fact it's expected. M390 has shown to be a fair bit tougher than S30V, and many other popular "sta...

Re: CPM MagnaCut | Edge Performance

Thanks a lot Shawn, some really interesting results. I completely agree, MC deserves to be HTed to higher hardness - at leas for pocket knives. One point (a thought, really) about that 'better initial sharpness holding' for low alloy steels: I can not really attest to it, but my impression is that ...

Re: Sharpening horror

I would suggest he learns to sharpen. That's an unfortunate but not terribly surprising result. I mean we could get into wrapping sandpaper around blocks and trying to thin things and what not but that is bad and if this person already didn't want to sharpen, well... That's a life lesson right there.

Re: Triple B/Spyderco Folder

The "queue" means it has a space on the "conveyor", rather than waiting on hold for a spot.. Keep in mind that first we had to test Shawn's heat treat requirements. Then we had to get the steel made in a batch with his instructions for his model. That kind of prep does take time...

Sal,

If you don't mind, does "in the queue" mean for prototyping or production run? Sorry if you've previously answered that.

Re: Best PM2 in either M390/204P/20CV

I can't believe this thread about a ho hum steel/steels is 4 pages long. This feels like a thread for 2018. Unfortunately it's mostly clutter from a handful of people telling me this topic shouldn't even be discussed, with claims of "misinformation" and such. It seems people are buying in...
