Re: Free hand sharpening techniques

I'm not sure why folks on this forum take issue with the phrase muscle memory. It's been an accepted fact for ages. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muscle_memory Obviously the muscles themselves don't remember things, it's a symbiotic relationship between the brain and muscles, but it is very much a ...

Re: Free hand sharpening techniques

Most of us have a preferred side and for most of us that will be the side we pull toward us. Now, you can, as said, develop a technique that uses both hands to pull the blade toward you regardless of side. You can also sharpen side-to-side instead of push-pull. Me? I'm a push-pull old school dude. F...

While threads like this one are stressful, they are important and I do read and think about every word. sal Sal, I think I can safely speak for many when I say you are huge factor in why many of us continue to or want to continue to support Spyderco. Re: Hard truths and observations

For me, Spyderco has always represented the well-built, blue collar, line up. They always had their upper echelon knives and along the way the lower budget series, but it was that middle tier that attracted me. I don't need super steels, I like simple locks, and FRN/FRCP are just fine for me in a po...

Re: BD1N I still want to know

I've had a Yaxell Dragon Fire 8" gyuto for some time now and I freakin' love it! I am not a super steel guy. I prefer, I don't know, simpler steels I guess. I like BD1 and VG10. Heck, I don't mind 8Cr if it is done well. I like steels that don't cost me an arm and a leg, perform their assigned tasks...

Re: Hard truths and observations

First, to everyone who keeps dismissing the Chinese as cheap, bad service, questionable quality, etc. I would strongly recommend you reconsider your position. Yes, those things can be true, but the Chinese figured this out about 20 years ago. Today, many companies are deeply committed to meeting and...

Re: price increase?!

I am simply astounded that Daveho calls Joe (Mastiff) a freakin' racist based off jack damnit! There is no other way to read that. It is exactly what was meant. If it wasn't, Daveho, you would've apologized at the accusation of something so vile and loathsome. There was a time when calling someone ...

For the average person, UltraSharp's 300/1200 grit combo diamond stone is pretty tough to beat.

The One That Got Away...

For me it is undoubtedly the Pattada. I kept saying I'd get one and then all of a sudden...poof...gone. Sleek and slicey, the things I love. Wire clip too. Sigh... I screwed up on that one. I should've supported Spyderco's endeavor there. I know I can watch the secondary market but that is more comp...

I wonder if the tip of the blade doesn't hit the screw? It goes through the knife, if I'm not mistaken.
It does not. It's close but it misses.

Re: Paramilitary 2 With Wire Clip!

Be still my heart! Having a wire clip on my entire collection of PM2's has been my dream since I bought my first one. The PM2 is the only model of Spyderco I'll buy without a wire clip, everything else is off the table. These photos have given me a renewed hope of bringing that dream to fruition. I...

Paramilitary 2 With Wire Clip!

I've been preaching the word of Spyderco for some time now and recently a friend and co-worker, who is machinist, finally got himself baptized. His first foray was a Cutlery Shoppe Manix 2 LW exclusive and he was hooked. The next thing you know, he's ordering up a PM2. He's fondled several of my Spy...

Re: Is your interest in sharpening on the same level as your interest in knives?

I have had this thread floating in a tab in my browser for weeks and have read it over several times. I am already making my New Years resolution. 2019 will be the year of knife sharpening! I am going to watch all these You-tube people (I am already watching Michael Cristy) and see if I can teach m...

More options that don't utilize a forward finger choil.

Way more use of wire clips.

Re: CTS XHP

My only XHP blade is the Chaparral LW and I really like the stuff. Yes, the Chap's geometry surely aids in its performance but the steel is no slouch either. I carried that knife as my EDC for a couple months and really enjoyed it. Easy to sharpen and low maintenance. Right now, XHP and BD1N are at ...

Why Didn't You Buy A Manix 2 Back Lock?

This is a question I've been asking myself ever since it went on the discontinued list. This is in no way meant to be nasty. Quite the contrary, I think it is something worth pondering and openly sharing to see if Sal and folks can gleam anything from our thoughts. I love the Manix 2 LW. I have mult...

I work in manufacturing in an industry that only a handful of companies are involved in. China is rapidly emerging as an extremely aggressive competitor. The tariffs are absolutely becoming an issue for our business. It is scary in a sense, but right now, I think it is the right thing to do and some...

Re: Spyderco Factory resharpening

With all due respect, and I mean that, I don't think I'd call that a micro-bevel. They should be very light and almost imperceptible. To me, that's just a narrow tertiary bevel. It might be worth considering removing that and just going with the main secondary bevel. Just a thought. EDIT: Vivi beat ...
