Re: New fixed blade - need help

Sal, thanks for the opportunity to provide feedback. I have no comments on steel; you and the crew know much more than me to make the decision. 1) Offer in two lengths: a sub-6" and a >6" version. The large version should be made from heavy stock in proportion to length and width. 2. Elimi...

Re: Advanced Sharpening Systems On The Horizon?

what part are you referring to that put you off? The part where it is baldly asserted that you should not, under any circumstances, sharpen any knife containing steel with a diamond stone. Ah. Well, I guess there's the whole carbides getting tore out thing but that can be avoided by making edge lea...

Re: Show your Sharpening Equipment!

This is a small portion: https://i.imgur.com/5yiXPoC.jpg I have a pretty extensive lighting setup for examining edges while working them; a 2x72 belt grinder; a Worksharp sharpener (hardly ever used at this point); and various hand tools ranging from angle protractors to calipers to a drill press wi...

Re: Advanced Sharpening Systems On The Horizon?

I've been using the latest version of the Wicked Edge since it came out; I'm quite happy with the results I can obtain in an extremely short amount of time now. There was a learning curve, and during that period, I was slogging. However, once everything clicked, I never looked back. I have heard goo...

Re: It's True Life Is Not Fair>> medically speaking for sure

I'm just finishing up my 2nd week in isolation. I had a non-surgical procedure performed about 5 weeks ago, where they offloaded some pressure from the portal system by (a) infarcting 40% of the spleen (b) running a small tube directly from the spleen to the heart via the aorta. This was all done as...

Re: Which product to use to polish scratches off of stonewashed blade?

Vibratory tumbler + ceramic media. Essentially, you're going to have to put a new stonewash finish on the blade yourself. Once you finish tumbling it, you're going to have to spend some time sharpening, obviously.

Re: In search of a DODO

I got my Dodo a few months ago over on BF for a very reasonable price; it is one of the original runs, not a sprint run, which is a plus for me. I've seen several come and go at Arizona Custom Knives as well. One thing I'd say about ACK: you never have to worry about getting a knife that has been mi...

Re: Aftermarket DLC?

I'm in the final stages of putting together my e-coating lab. I evaluated all the current systems, and settled in on the Kliar e-coating system for it's durability (better than other coating systems), its self-lubricating properties, the ability to control thickness of coating down to 10μ which is t...

Pics of coarse paste and stone sharpened edges

And now: by request, sort of. I rarely strop in the conventional sense anymore, and certainly don't change grits when I do. However, I have a set of Wicked Edge paddles set up with key grits of diamond paste. The paddles have balsa wood surfaces, so that issues of flexing and of the contribution of ...

If any forum members are stuck on reprofiling because it simply takes too long, drop me a note. I'll be happy to reprofile on a grinder for you at no charge except you pay postage both ways.

Re: Extra coarse/low grit stropping

Optical magnification can't produce an image at a scale that would allow you to see the scratch pattern produced at the apex by stropping on coarse particulate abrasives, Your only chance of actually seeing the scratch pattern at the apex itself would be trying to convince Todd from the Science of ...

Highly Polished Primary Bevel w/ Toofy MicroBevel

So, clearly the FrankenManix is looking shiny: https://i.imgur.com/l42iFIw.jpg I then dragged a 200 grit diamond stone along the edge a few times, at +5DPS from the primary bevel angle. I then hit that microbevel with a 1.4μ ceramic for six strokes, and a .6μ ceramic for 15 strokes. That leaves us w...

Just a note that I think there is also an 8cm blade length limitation in Germany, independent of the opening mechanism.
Geez, 8cm? Isn't that like 1/4"?

Turning Doc's words into an XL picture, we have:

I know that's not what you asked about; however, I thought I'd share an example. The scales are from Putman. I think Orange/Black looks fantastic.

Re: Are there two hand opening locking knives by Spyderco?

Just a crazed idea from a psychopath who hasn't had any coffee yet today: what if you got either a Tatanka or a Szabo Folder, removed / plugged the hole? I don't think that I could open either of those knives with one hand: both are such strong closers that even using the Spydie hole it can be diffi...

Re: Shipping of internal parts

The biggest issue I see for the "size database" is the problem with the fakes. It has been mentioned that this is one of the few ways Spyderco can stem the tide, so to speak, by not making that info to easily available. I'm sure the thread pitch and head style are easy enough to identify,...
