Re: Daily carry with the Dragonfly
I have a black one I carry when I need a more discrete EDC. My boy uses an orange one for Scouts.

Re: Byrd of Prey
It was rejected a few years back akready. I just stumbled on the renderings again recently and figured I'd share them since I had them. Kind of a what might have been thread :-)

Re: Spyderco knives: Copper, Brass and Bronze scales?
I voted "any of those" although my preference would be copper or bronze over brass. I'd be curious to see full scales but also think bolsters in conjunction with other materials might be the better compromise for weight and texture.

Re: SeaMonkey
You guys probably are right then. The ones I'd messed with and had didn't lock although they were all fairly old military surplus models. I thought it was the norm but it's looking like maybe I needed to do more research! I don't really have any plans on trying to redo these designs and resubmit the...

Re: SeaMonkey
Could be Seber. I based it on traditional rigging knives that commonly had sheepsfoot blades and no locks on either blade or spike. I figured those folks had more time around boats than me :p There's certainly an argument to be made that a modern version could or should be different though. I've use...

Re: SeaMonkey
Blade width was 1.5 inches but much of that protrudes from the handle when closed so the actual handle with spike folded would probably be closer to an inch or so high. I wouldn't think it would be too bad but again, that's the benefit a manufacturer has working with a knifemaker rather than just so...

Re: SeaMonkey
I dunno. Not sure what kind of price range something like that could have ended up at. I would def think less than a Tusk but I'm sure blade steel would be a big factor. Something H1 would have been appropriate although I guess if I was pushing for that I should have had my rendering done with yello...

WHARNIE DELICA- SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY Those two are the ones that sing to me. Loving the Euroedge. Wharnie Delica is prob more practical but I lov...

Byrd of Prey
Last one of my rejected design guys, I promise :) So I turned in the two designs for consideration in the regular Spyderco line, the SpyderMonkey and SeaMonkey, and one for the Byrd line, the Byrd of Prey. This one was a little more whimsical with a sweeping recurve blade and more flowing lines than...

Okay, here was my other design proposal all those years back. This one was a definite no go as Peter had told me the Tusk was apparently on the drawing board even back then. I didn't know it was the Tusk at the time but he told me Sal already had a rigging knife design that had been around for a whi...

Re: SpyderMonkey
Well, the design is based on the Bushcrafter fixed blade I designed about 8 or so years ago. The challenge is transitioning the good points of that to a folder, while accommodating the mechanics of the folding blade and lock. Most of the fixed blade versions had fat, round handles which I def prefer...

Re: SpyderMonkey
See, I never equate bushcraft and survival. While there's certainly some overlap, to me (and a good many other folks) they're two different things. Bushcraft is a hobby and involves practicing outdoors skills and crafting. Things that are useful when camping and in the outdoors, and some of which wo...

Re: For those on the fence about a Delica purchase...
Just got mine today. I'll admit that it was never a model that I thought I'd end up with based on my initial impression of it upon first site. The FRN handle didn't appeal, nor the blade shape. BUT, as my 6th Spyderco purchase, dang this thing is nice! It took a bit to come around, and it was a slo...
