Re: What really is hard use?

Thanks everybody for clearing that up. I just didn't want to ruin a really good knife. Thanks!

Re: What really is hard use?

So are the push cutting with the knee like I described earlier hard on a folder?

Re: What really is hard use?

I was just curious if the cutting task I wrote about was to much for the para2.

Re: What really is hard use?

So what really are we buying these top of the line steels for? I understand opening packages and light duty edc. But some don't like the though of hard use on spydercos. I don't mind using mine in the "hard use" category, I just don't want it wearing my lock up or any other important factors of the ...

What really is hard use?

I've been using my para2 a lot since I've got it. I've enjoyed having it around. I've recently started shaving down some wood to keep in my building in case I want to start a bon fire. So I've shaved down 2 construction stakes. Probably about 2 1/2 feet and 1X2 stakes. The thing that got me thinking ...

My same exact thought. I would get one now but I'm wanting to widen my steel collections and already have a para 2 in S30V.

Re: I would like something in S110V.

Well, my wife helped me decided last night. My birthday is the 5th of December. So she said "get either the manix 2 LW in S110V for my birthday then get the para2 in the S110V and the G-10 dragonfly for Christmas". Man! She's the sweetest.

Re: I would like something in S110V.

I am very happy to hear that you sorted it out. I never seem to stop learning and improving when it comes to sharpening. If you are confident that you can sharpen S110V then I believe you can. It really isn't that hard unless you over think it. :) If you are determined then sharpening harder to ...

Re: I would like something in S110V.

I own a Manix2 and it is a fine knife. Drawbacks for me are that it takes up a lot of poocket space, has a ton of superfluous jimping and only comes tip up. I still wouoldn't talk you out of buying one. It is a great knife.

You have recently started two threads on sharpening. Are you sure you want ...

Re: I would like something in S110V.

I really love the paramilitary 2 platform. But it'd also be nice to have something different as my wife had said. What are some pros and cons of the manix2? If any at all.

I would like something in S110V.

My wife had ask a while back what I wanted for Christmas and I told her and headed here to see if a better idea popped up. I had told her I would like the blue paramilitary 2 in S110V and a dragonfly. So last night I received a catalog from spyderco, so I started window shopping. She ask to see the ...

Re: Can someone show or tell me what a rolled edge looks like?

If you don't have fingernails, try using a toothpick. Alternately, shining a bright light across the flat of the blade from the spine side might show you the rolled edge. It will catch the light and reflect it back. I don't know if my photography skills are up to getting a good picture of it, but I ...

Re: Can someone show or tell me what a rolled edge looks like?

A good reprofile is all you need. Hopefully you got it reset last night and are working with a good bevel now. I will echo what was already said, you can leave the bevel at 260 grit or whatever grit you reprofiled with and move right to alternating passes on your microbevel. I find it easy to raise ...

Re: Can someone show or tell me what a rolled edge looks like?

If you are seeing light reflect off the edge after only a couple of easy cutting tasks then that is more than losing initial sharpness.

I check for a bur by dragging my nail off the edge like others have explained but I also check for a bur by dragging the edge across my nail in an edge trailing ...

Re: Can someone show or tell me what a rolled edge looks like?

Thanks for everybody's help. With my knife I never really seemed to able to feel the "rolled" edge or even see it with the light. I was reading last night a little about S30V, and what I read was that S30V will take a good edge but loses that initial biting sharp after use then just maintains a ...

I sharpen 30° with 40° microbevel. I don't know what could be the problem. I'd like to be able to use the knife more than once before it rolls or dulls

I was pressing kinda hard and it was just some kinda thin rope.

Re: Can someone show or tell me what a rolled edge looks like?

Sometimes a shiny spot isn't a roll. It could be dulling from wear or a flat spot from hitting something. You can definitely feel it if you drag your nail from spine to edge and try to slide it off the edge.

How fast would this kinda thing happen? I cut 2 pieces of rope this morning on the ...
