Re: Delica or new Salt 2?
I won't be using it in corrosive environments, but do like the idea that I could fully submerse it for a good ol' cleaning after food prep and maybe even huck it in the dishwasher if push came to shove.

Delica or new Salt 2?
Im gearing up to replace my lost Delica 4. Delica being my favourite knife to carry in my collection. Before losing it, I was thinking of buying a Salt I but was waiting for an update in hopes the handle would change to the Delica 4 type. Well, now that it has, I'm wondering if I should replace my D...

Re: So this happened...
I went to an NBA game with metal detectors you had to walk through. Had a Pacific Salt clipped RFP, no issues. Dunno if that knife fails to set off metal detectorsor what, but that's my experience for what its worth. BTW, if you EDC nice knife you ought to pair it with a nice light! I'm partial to ...

Re: So this happened...
Wow -- the parallels our particular experiences share in common are almost skin-crawling, thinking back to how close I came to losing two particularly rare and expensive Spydies at Red Rocks Amphitheater west of Denver a couple of weeks back now, the headlining band was 'Blues Traveler' and my frie...

Re: So this happened...
Well, I take comfort in knowing I'm not the only one that has been through this. Had I realized before I was next to get the security treatment, I'm sure I could have thought of something. My quick thinking did make me think that if I got burned trying to be sneaky, let's say between my flip flop an...

First off, if you ever get the chance to see a concert at the Gorge Amphitheater in Washington State, do it. It's an AMAZING venue that provides an awesome geographical backdrop directly behind the stage. Secondly, don't forget to leave your Spydie behind. Most people end up camping out at the Gorge...

Re: How obtuse is/was your Chaparral factory bevel?
Can't remember, but I do know I thinned it out a lot, so it must have been bad. I need 15° at least. I can't stand shallow edges. Might be tougher, but try and whittle with it. Yep, I have no way to know what it was, but the actual bevel is at least 2x wider than it was. Maybe even closer to 3x wid...

Re: How obtuse is/was your Chaparral factory bevel?
I probably could have spent more time on the browns, but am super happy with the sharpness I've obtained on the re-profiling job. I then went on to micro-bevel at 40º. I am guessing that I should be ok to go back to the 30º setting with the brown rods without any detriment to my 40º micro bevel, cor...

Re: How obtuse is/was your Chaparral factory bevel?
Another question I have is about when to switch from the CBN rod to the medium rod. Should I be removing ALL evidence of sharpie at the apex? or will leaving a slight bit there for the medium stones provide a less jagged edge? I would use the CBN rods until you have a clean apex. Then move to the b...

Ok, thanks guys. I'll finish my re-profiling job at 30º inclusive and call her a day. Another question I have is about when to switch from the CBN rod to the medium rod. How obtuse is/was your Chaparral factory bevel?
With my new CBN rods that I received for Xmas, I successfully re-profiled my Dad's ultra-dull Byrd Tern and then decided with one knife under my belt, I'd attack my most carried knife, thus most sharpened, the Chappie. Now, I knew going into this, that 8Cr13MoV on the Tern was going to be a quicker ...

Re: Steel types vs sharpening difficulty
At this point, I'm not necessarily after a specific steel, but am drawn to specific knifes and steel options are what they are. I don't use knifes for tough tasks so I'm actually ok with the various steels I already have and don't desire a harder steel. S30V is working well for me as far as the abil...

Re: Steel types vs sharpening difficulty
Yes, I will likely be receiving CBN stones for the SM on Xmas day. They're one of the few items I placed on my list this year. So I'll likely gain some re-profiling experience with the steels I currently have and hopefully start taking note of how long each steel I own takes to remove enough steel t...

Steel types vs sharpening difficulty
Preface: I'm not expecting my question to be easily answered as I think there's likely many factors at play, but here goes. I keep reading/seeing all these new fancy steels that are enticing but I worry about getting a new knife with a steel that's too "advanced" for me in terms of being a...

Why no Spydies with white scales?
Is it just me, or would white scales be pretty sharp lookin' on certain knives. Not sure if white G10 is possible, but if it were, white G10 with silver liners would look **** fine. I get that it could get grubby for those that use their knives in messy conditions or with dirty hands and that would ...

Re: Q Ball Bearing Lock (C219GP)
I gotta say, it's the knife that stood out to me too for all the same reasons as you described. I currently carry a Chap at work in my office environment, but being a systems specialist at a hospital, I end up opening boxes for parts, servers etc rather frequently and then breaking down the cardboar...

Re: 30 deg back bevel and 40 deg edge on all Spydercos?
I gathered all the wisdom from this thread as well as a thread I started a few days ago (re: about the value of a SM technique I saw on youtube), and I had a SM break through tonight. I received a new Spydie a couple of days ago, (a Delica FFG) and was surprised at how sharp it was in comparison to ...

Re: For those on the fence about a Delica purchase...
My only fear is that I'm used to 50/50 choils now, so I worry that I'm going to grip it choil style and end up on the losing end of that decision. I know many are anti-choil on the Delica, but wondering how people flip between using choils on a choiled model, then flipping to a choil-free blade. Is ...
