Re: AFI Performance Flash Batch

The Delica is the current plan. I've got a drawing, now to see if the maker can get to the odd specs. Very thin edge, high hollow grind, high hardness steel, etc. sal A high hollow is a fascinating idea I was pondering about a month ago. If desired, I think it was something like a 13" wheel on 1-1....

Re: Spyderco Photo of the Week Contest!

What I'd like to know is: how do you guys get all these spiders to crawl across your Spydies? I've seen so many of these pics now! It takes patient corralling. If you push them too quickly, they'll run away or get defensive. If you nudge them gently and slowly, they'll eventually let you pose them ...

Re: Where is the Urban Coyote?

I received mine today, and both of them are quite disappointing in the fit-n-finish dept. One of them had excessive buffing of the FRN, removing the nice radius in 2 places and causing FRN burrs, the other has blemishes on the blade from the factory, both have poorly cut jimping (looks like galling...

Re: Behind the edge database!

I have some unsharpened Spyderco blades, so I measured them. I have noticed inconsistent edge grinds, so I didn't just take an average BTE value for each. The numbers that follow are thousandths of an inch BTE at 1/4" from the ricassso/at the middle of the edge/1/4" from the tip, followed by stock t...

Is there any reliable way to test a cladded steel like hap40/sus410?
I think the only option for that is to grind through the cladding. With great care, there's likely enough room around a Spydie hole and the kick/ricasso to do that without structurally compromising the blade.

Re: The History of 3V, Cru-Wear, and Z-Tuff Steel

Excellent article! I have made knives from and enjoyed Z-Wear and CPM 4V, and have some 3V to play with. I'm glad to see articles written about my favorite class of steel. Also, I learned about niobium carbide during my college final project, and have really liked the idea of primarily NbC steels si...
