Re: HRC Database

Here are the results of 48 knives I had tested for Rockwell hardness. Some were poked once, some 3x but I'm listing the overall average in order of softest to the hardest. In my pocket there is a rex45 pm2 that tested 66 from previous owner. So 49 in total. Who did the testing out of curiosity?

Re: What’s Your Favorite Underrated Sleeper Knife?

My favorite is the Hawkbill Dragonfly, you don't know what you're missing. A take me just about anywhere all weather land or sea pocket public friendly EDC. With a blade shape and size that will reveal it's function and worth the more you use it. It's only minus is the yellow or nothing color option...

Re: Is it possible to sharpen knives by only stroping?

Darby has a good point. Technically I'm not stropping, I'm free hand sharpening with an ultra fine CBN emulsion on a soft medium (leather). But I think these days when people say 'stropping' this is what they mean. I don't think a lot of folks are doing bare leather when they say stropping. I also t...

Re: It's Hawkbill Time: Spyderco Units Only Please

Absolutely JD. Carrying both is the way to go. I think serrated is more useful for a wider variety of cutting tasks and retains that usefulness longer in between sharpenings. My PE preference is as you say, specific to my EDC needs. I love that razor blade sharpness and clean push cuts, and like yo...

Re: Is it possible to sharpen knives by only stroping?

I've gotten into some arguments in the past on this topic. I've mellowed a bit since then, and had a lot more experience both sharpening and stropping since then. I would say that you need to start with a knife that has been properly apexed (burr formed on both sides). Then strop to align the teeth ...

Re: Purchase limits on Sprints/Exlusives

I may be in the minority, but I think Spyderco is doing sprints and exclusives exactly right. I hate when I miss one that I'd really like to have, but I understand the game, and I've accepted how it works. Different dealers use slightly different rules, which is great. Having Spyderco try to centra...

Re: It's Hawkbill Time: Spyderco Units Only Please

....... Those are good points you bring out Zrow but do consider that everyone has their own set of cutting jobs they have to deal with in their respective vocations or interests. I've encountered several occasions where I needed to cut rope, cordage and in many cases hard to cut plants. I've exclu...

Re: It's Hawkbill Time: Spyderco Units Only Please

... I wrongly assumed you only had that one SE knife (and that not being a Spyderco), but three spyderedged folders (an at least one (LC200N) in ffg) are certainly enough for forming a solid opinion on SE! / On "sawing" / push cutting with SE: Maybe I understand the terms not right or was not clear...

Re: It's Hawkbill Time: Spyderco Units Only Please

Oh I'm all ears if anyone wants to share the uses they have found for plain edged Hawkbills but personally I haven't found many cutting jobs that could be done better than what you can do with a serrated Hawkbill. ........ Re: Best Handbag Folder for Wife?

I usually try to let the people I buy knives for pick which one they want. Which can occasionally cost you :D I have a friend who carried a CRKT M16 and a Kershaw Launch4 in her purse for about 5 years, I told her for her Birthday I was going to get her a nice knife, she could pick any knife she wan...

Re: Best Handbag Folder for Wife?

.... I am debating on what folder to buy her (to appease her and continue my collection) for her handbag EDC. I was looking into something not to small (want some intimidation factor when needed), but not too big and hard to use for immediate action for self-defense..... Hi Marshmallow, training is...
