I agree with most of what was already posted concerning the error in judgement for knife selsection in this case.
Sounds like he just bought a Ferrari expecting it to go off road.

Spyderco tang font
When I was looking over my Caly Jr Grey FRN the other day (see Forgotten Spyders ) I noticed the font on the blade tang and wondered why they stopped using it. This is my favorite font on the blade:

They actually work good too! I was surprised how much I liked them for edc utility type stuff. I was always under the impression that I would hate a tanto, but you get the benefits of a super strong tip, 2 distinct cutting tips, and a long straight blade. Forgotten Spyders
Ever have one of those Spydercos that seem to be forgotten? I am referring to my Grey FRN Calypso Jr. I bought it on closeout from the SFO for a paltry $34.99!!! It has been outshined recently by all the superstar Caly3s and so on, but what a cool little knife!

Sal,
I understand and did not mean to try to tell you anything you didn't know. I am the student here! :) The fix was really simple for my problem and does not warrant a design change that is for sure. I can't help my engineering type brain wants to try and fix everything whether it needs it or not ...
