Re: Weird streaks/scratch in DLC?
Oof. And they didn't even do a good job on the sharpening.

K390 vs S110V - Some Observations
I thought it'd be interesting to compare these two steels, since they're both offered in high performance production variations of several popular Spyderco models. This isn't going to be terribly scientific, just some things I've noticed in sharpening and use. I recently sharpened both my K390 Polic...

Re: S110v to delicate more of a safe queen???
This steel is very unique. I sharpened mine at 17 DPS on diamond plates for the Edge Pro, which was a pretty close match to the factory bevel. Microbeveled with Shapton Glass 2k, then on to 5 micron diamond loaded leather strop, and finished on bare leather. Edge would pop off arm hairs and easily p...

Re: Military Sprint Runs No More?
Would love to see either one. I imagine a Maxamet Milly (or even Milly 2) is unlikely given how difficult it was to work with even in the PM2 platform.

Re: Military Sprint Runs No More?
While I like the new Military 2 version, to me it’s a larger PM2 and not so much a “Military” anymore. I’m not writing this to provoke a discussion about their relative merits or how one can’t stop the flow of “progress” — just a personal opinion from someone who’s a huge fan of the original. Absol...

Military Sprint Runs No More?
With the advent of the Military 2, will we see any more sprint runs in the venerable OG Military platform, or are those days long gone?

Re: Community Sharpening Journal
Not to be annoying: but how large of a burr do you need? I saw some YouTube videos where the burr is so big they can break it off with their fingers. Mine never gets that large, no matter how much I sharpen on one side I don't need a burr at all to get a knife sharp, technically nobody else does ei...

Re: Delica 4 in 2024?
Fun fact, if you clean your VG-10 Delica 4 blade and angle it in the light just right. You can see the chromium carbide banding flowing parallel with the blade. https://i.imgur.com/33JOrDg.jpeg How about that. I've always wondered what that wavy pattern was. At one point I thought it was a defect u...

Re: Janky grind on K390 Delica Wharncliffe
No I’m not an expert in the knife making industry, not even close. I’m simply a knife enthusiast and user and Spyderco has been my go to manufacturer for anything knife related for over 15 years now. It would appear that I wrongly made the assumption that this was a place where opinions both good a...

Re: Janky grind on K390 Delica Wharncliffe
For OP, to give a couple other Spyderco wharncliffe examples to compare - These are a S30V Delica, K390 Delica, K390 Endela. Photos taken with my phone, trying to keep things level and square with the internal phone level but probably still subject to fisheye and focal length issues vs the human ey...

Re: Janky grind on K390 Delica Wharncliffe
https://i.ibb.co/4fBWdQV/20231019-174923.jpg My K390 wharnie came from the factory pretty uneven too - I don't have any pictures prior to sharpening but it was noticeably uneven with that same mini 'hawkbill' near the tip and another uneven spot near the heel of the blade. It sharpened up just fine...

Re: Janky grind on K390 Delica Wharncliffe
Not the worst I’ve seen on a wharncliffe blade. I had a Rough Rodger wharny once that was more like a full on recurve! But it was very cheap. …unlike the Delica. Send it back if you can. One of the main draws of a wharncliffe blade is the edge is easy to sharpen - yours is not going to be, and beca...

Re: Janky grind on K390 Delica Wharncliffe
Yes, it is normal and what I would expect when a human being is grinding a straight edge like a wharnecliffe using a powered grinder. Getting that edge perfectly straight and flat is something that I believe can only be done properly using a perfectly flat bench stone. Ask me how I know... ;). I ma...
