Re: How do I stop rusting on my carbon steels?

I just recently have been experimenting with "browning," the precursor to "blueing" as is found on weapons. Can easily be done at home, but entails boiling the metal to turn rust (red oxide) into magnetite, which resists rust much better than raw steel. But it does give you a dark brown blade ...

Re: Normal variation in serrated grind?

Let me rephrase. I’m not talking about the width of the bevel but rather the “gap” or height difference between the original blade stock (red line) and the serration points.

That is a result of being ground deeper into the blade. If you do an image search you'll see lots of serrations like ...

Normal variation in serrated grind?

Just picked up a new H2 Pacific Salt 2, and noticed this one seems to have a lot more steel removed during the edge grind vs my older one (top LC200N). You can see it when looking at the original blade stock at the ricasso vs where the bottom of the serration points are comparing between the two. Is ...

Delica Wharncliffe. I started missing how good it was at cutting cardboard and had to get another one.

Great thread! I really enjoy seeing the variety of Spyderco knives people collect and use. The blend of practical design and innovative features always makes their knives stand out.
Does anyone have a favorite model for everyday carry? I’m curious which ones hold up best over time.

Pacific Salt ...

Re: Shaman SPY27 nearly protruding tip

There seems to be more knives from Golden missing good QC these days?
The recent threads here of the Native salt and 15v para 3 are just two examples.

The Shaman in particular is an expensive knife and perhaps a higher standard of care before it reaches the customer could be applied?

The old ...

Re: SE performance is more than simply teeth vs no teeth.

Any tips for getting SE to that factory level of sharpness? Have an older Salt 2 that has been sharpened many times at 40 on the Sharpmaker. I usually do 5 passes on serration side/1 pass on the other side and alternate direction (pulling toward/pushing away as I go down the SM rod). It will ...

I just got one of these for Christmas and I like it. Sharpened it and made a short paracord fob to get my 4th finger on the grip.
