Re: Toughness data

It seems odd cpm would list 10v’s toughness based on a 59 rc. Lower rc would mean a little higher toughness right? that seems misleading since its usually 63 rc +/-

Re: Toughness data

Larrin - do you believe the data the manufactures post? They say Cruwear has a 60ft-lb toughness and the chart that you have from your tests shows closer to 20-25ft-lb.

That seems like a big variance. Or, are large variances normal due to HT and RC changes in the steel tested?

Re: Toughness data

The rabbit hole gets deeper and deeper. I know about 0.0001% of the info that some of the guys/gals know on these forums, yet I know more then 99.99% of the general public. Between my normal job, most of my brain matter is dedicated to that data/info. So I only have minimal time to learn more about ...

Toughness data

There are 1 million edge retention tests and information out there, but is there any database on Steel toughness? All I can find is some info, but not a lot from Knife nerds. See below. Is this accurate? I was always told 1095 is a tough steel, but it ranks pretty low on this scale. And AEB-L is tou...

Hap40 Delica Wharnie - WOW

I just grabbed a Hap40 Wharnie delica from national Knives, and I am super impressed. I ran through a stock pile of costco boxes and put it through some work. Initial impressions - I love the burnt orange. I thought I would really Dislike the orange, but it is well done and looks great. The laminate...

Re: Help convince me that FRN handles are better than they look..

FRN is great stuff, especially the Japan products. Cost effective and great users. Do not hesitate to grab one, and use it. Keep your Carbon Fiber for nicer uses then yard work with a Pac Salt.

Re: Has to be discussed: Military or Chief?

i hope the lock on the police is rock solid. My best backlock, is a Pac Salt - 100% solid. Delica, Stretch, Dfly all have decent movement. But the Pac salt - legit! Maybe I got lucky. I have not used a native so I can not comment. I think the price point of the police will be a win vs the chief. But...

Re: seat belt cutting

It would be wise to avoid anything with a fine tip. Millie and PM2 might stick the person by accident. If you are ever in this situation, adrenaline is likely very high and fine motor goes to shit. So, you would want a rounded tip. The assist is the go to, all day long. Seat belts are pretty tough t...

Re: I have lost...

I have a local dealer I like, it sounds like a need to hold a Chap LW, Lil native, and the tried and true Dfly2 and see who wins. I forgot about those 2 options. Thanks Fellas

2 lil spydies. K390 Urban and H1 SE DFLY. NOOOO!!! I need to get a small spydie to replace them. I have an ikuchi but need a small EDC. I am thinking another Dfly2, PE H1. Any other good suggestions for a mid range LW user? Maybe a Native LW, but that might be bigger then I am thinking for the lil s...

Re: Cruwear What is the problem?

random question-

regarding added toughness with cruwear, M4, 3v - will it make a noticeable difference in keeping a fine tip like on the Millie from dulling or blunting? Compared to s30-110v type steels

My GoldenStone came in

And I can see why people really like this design. I am about to go mess around with it now on my Pac Salt. I am leaving it in the kitchen for quick tough ups on Kitchen knifes. Love the design! Way to use your brains Sal and Co, seriously, very creative design!

Tips for UF bench stone?

My UF Bench Stone arrived the other day and I have just begun to fiddle around with it. But, it is unlike any other stone I have worked with and am curious if there are good tips or tricks you guys have? For example, I was cleaning the powdered steel off the stone with a regular papertowel and water...

Re: Ikuchi - fantastic knife!

What’s it like to use if you have big hands? I really like Paul Alexander’s designs, but the slating the Ourobous* got for simply having Teflon washers should have been a lesson learned. Nick S’s video review probably killed that model. *FWIW I use a silicon lubricant on mine and it’s fantastic. It...

So the customer/user has to modify a new knife to prevent cutting their hand? Doesn't sound very fantastic to me.
I have not had to mod it...
