Native IV is my favorite, followed by the fluted Ti Native V.

I am also more of a user than a pure collector, so that's why I voted for a locking knife even though I will almost certainly buy any forum knife that is offered, as I am still a "casual" collector of special models and would want to show my support for the forum.

I think that mark is just showing you where the ball travels on the blade tang. I don't think it is a groove but rather the dirt and debris that gets deposited from the ball to the tang. Neither the ball or the tang are perfectly round or radiused which explains why the lark is not exactly straight ...

I tend to like the Golden Colorado USA EArth made Natives the best but I also had an AUS-10, combo edged, stainless handled model that also worked great.

Which Natives are not made in Golden?

I'd be surprised if CTS-BDZ1 is the next Mule Team. I recall Sal speaking at one of the fan meets (think it was one in Amsterdam) years back that he had a minimum threshold of 0.9% carbon content in steels used for Spyderco blades.

We have a good relationship with the maker now and will be remaking the old models and then creating the new ("2") versions from MBS-26. I think one of the "reasons" for their performance is they heat treat in lead.

Sal also previously mentioned that the manufacturer has a refined HT protocol for MBS-26 that brings out exceptional performance in the steel.
