When the scratch pattern from the CBN rods covers all the scallops from the shoulder down to the edge, then it’s a good time to switch to the brown rods to refine that scratch pattern.
Yes, I see: all the shoulder go down with CBN and then brown to refine :smiling-cheeks Thanks!

Re: SE performance is more than simply teeth vs no teeth.

You can reprofile the entire serration grind by going to the 30 slots but it's time consuming and you really need CBN or diamond rods to do it right.

I have the CBN...do you suggest me to go on reprofiling? Maybe this way I strengthen my edge, that chipped so easily.

They'll speed ...

Re: SE performance is more than simply teeth vs no teeth.

This is a photo of Chap's edge after a little sharpmaking (grey rods) at 30°

https://i.postimg.cc/XYgm858Y/Chap-sharpening.jpg

It seems that the chips are vanishing with this kind of sharpening, surely I need to go on.

Maybe 30° are right because I see both the "edges of the edge" are worked ...

Re: SE performance is more than simply teeth vs no teeth.

I would start with the 30 degree slots on the brown rods, do about 4 passes on the front side then 1 pass on the back and repeat. In the future if you keep damaging the edge maybe a slightly thicker edge will suit your uses better, then I'd sharpen it on the 40 degree slots.

Got it!!! I will ...

Re: SE performance is more than simply teeth vs no teeth.

Do you have a Sharpmaker? This is pretty trivial to fix if you have one, those chips aren't bad at all. I personally won't use anything else on serrations.

Yes, I have :smlling-eyes

I have the Work Sharp Precision Adjust Elite Sharpener too, but I know you prefer and suggest the SharpMaker ...

Re: SE performance is more than simply teeth vs no teeth.

I don't think there was a burr: it was new from a store but I didn't look at the edge with microscope or macro photo. Apparently the edge was good and I was very impressed by the sharpening of it: It cut like no other knives in my life.
I was so impressed that I cought another Chap SE to leave as a ...

Re: SE performance is more than simply teeth vs no teeth.

Hi all,

A Chaparral SE 2 weeks old, very lightly used, mostly paper and nothing hard: It seems really really chipped for the use it had. :-||

Maybe I'm not accustomed to the CTS-XHP behaviour ... Is it a so weak steel?

BTW I would like to ...

Re: Another thread for discussing a Chaparral XL - now that it came one step closer to become a reality

I love so much the actual LW SE that I will buy every iteration of the Chappy :-))) ..even if I do not love big knife (I mean the size of the LW is perfect for me).

For the steels I would like obviously MagnaCut but also k390 or CruWear ; CPM 15V would be a dream like all other supersteels.

Every ...

Re: Where are the Chaparral steels?

I've recently got 2 Chaps LW SE and one of them is always with me while the other one is sleeping at home waiting...I hope forever :-)))
I will buy others in different steel because this knife at this point it is my preferred one in all the Spyderco catalogue (and hope for other SEs too BTW).

For ...

Re: Para 3 LW CPM-15V Clip Reversal?

I had the same issue with my beloved k390 Urban. Probably a matter of threadlocker, I solved applying a hot solder tip to the screw head till heating it, when Loctite melted...unscrewed all without any problem. Don't worry about damaging, just apply the solder the right time (about 30-40 seconds ...

Got it, surely 40 degrees on one side would be bad :-)

May I assume that some strokes need to be gave to the back of the blade too, just to remove the burr ?

Re: SE performance is more than simply teeth vs no teeth.

Hi,

I'm about to buy a Chaparral to EDC, I love this little guy...so I'm trying to decide if Plain or SE.
I've only a few serrated one from old time, like my first Syderco, the Cricket :-) but I seldom carrie it, don't know why BTW.
I know well that you guys here are very biased :-))) but you ...
