Re: High Performance Delica Excitement

So many guesses, such a great teaser... My hope is that it's either K390 or MagnaCut, with everything just the same as a regular FRN Delica, including the price for the chosen blade steel. If it was G10, I'd still buy one, though as soon as my Russian micarta scales arrive, I *will* have a spare set...

Well, you'll be glad to learn the caly 3 is a moki made knife, not a seki city (g.sakai) knife!

Both Sakai and Moki are based in Seki Japan, the "Seki City" imprint is just a statement of origin, like those seen on blades made in Sheffield England or Solingen Germany.

Re: Non LW Seki City - where's the love?

I really like my G10 Dragonfly, but it doesn't get much pocket time compared to the FRN version, mostly due to the extra weight.

As mentioned before, the price bump is also something I thought long and hard about before buying... that said, I'd jump on a G10 Delica if it was reissued.

Re: My thumb keeps slipping from the hole on my new spyderco

The only Spydie I've owned that has a stiff enough action that I've had to pay special attention to keeping my thumb stable in the opening hole is a stainless Kiwi, the Urban is probably the next stiffest action, but a firm hold keeps both models under control for safe opening. I will second the opi...

Re: Let’s see your Urbans

On the somewhat related subject of UKPK scale/blade intercompatibility; there is none. The LW has thinner blade stock and a totally different backspring system from the original design, the only part that's interchangeable is the clip.

Re: Let’s see your Urbans

Here's my Urban collection Featured are: BB exclusive Elmax, now sporting Cuscadi CF scales... the original BRG scales' pivot holes were already stripped when I got it (used). Seki City made G10 Urbans, green/leaf and orange/wharncliffe, both purchased used. AEB-L Sprint (yes, mine needed a bit take...

Re: 20CV grind and edge deformation

Some steels (and some factory edge grinding methods) will leave a brittle apex, compared to what you get with a second sharpening... while I haven't noticed this being an issue with the M390 family steels before, that could at least partially account for the damage seen on your edge. I've had excell...

Re: Paramilitary 2 in cpm20cv question

Sad to say that the only M390-ish PM2 I have carried regularly is the translucent red M390 (M390 and 204P are my current favorite stainless steels, pending release of MagnaCut), my 20CV and 204P variants have only had a couple outings each and while I've been impressed with my (extensively carried) ...

Re: K390

I've only sharpened K390 with bonded diamond stones on the Hapstone system, but it was easy with that setup and had no issues with burrs or being difficult to grind. That was a full bevel reset on the Urban Sprint. My Delica came with an excellent edge, so I've only stropped it twice since last Nove...

Re: To decide between these 4 Spydercos..

Not a big SE fan, also not a big S30V fan. I've never even seen a Vallotton... My take on the Millie is that I love it, but it's seriously big and regular production only offers S30V, so no go. Endura is more manageable size-wise and comes in K390, which takes and holds a fantastic edge, not stainle...

Re: First Spyderco - S30v or SPY27?

Once you (almost certainly) find the N5 LW to your liking, you owe it to yourself to try the linerless G10 Native 5! If you wind up liking one scale material and steel over the other, you can always do a blade swap :D My only grumble about the N5 platform is the thick-behind-the-edge grind... though...

Re: New CPM Stainless Steel??

Pending scale color selection, my plan for a Millie would be to swap the blade into my fluted ti scales... If the G10 color is cool enough, those great ti scales would have to keep grinding along with "just" S30V.

Re: New CPM Stainless Steel??

Now there needs to be an lookout thread, so we can be notified as soon as the first MagnaCut equipped Spydie drops! I hope that it gets the K390 treatment, rather than the SPY27 route... I'd like to pick it up in a sub $150 knife that *isn't* a Golden LW variant, failing that a G10 Manix 2 or Para 3...

Re: Help cleaning UF stone

If you flatten any ceramic stone, you will "re-grade" it to a lower grit if you use a coarser grit stone to flatten it. On top of that the ceramic matrix of this stone is much harder than other "stones" (most are granular matrixes, or friable ceramic binders with embedded grit, meant to shed dull gr...

Re: Spyderco Waiter's Corkscrew

I've mentioned it before, in another thread about something else, but I would buy one instantly. The constant weakness for these is how quickly the blade gets dull, and I think Spyderco would do it better. My vote would definitely be H1 serrated, unless there is something better that I am unaware o...

Re: UF Benchstone Questions

The UF doesn't really remove stock the way a similar grit *number* diamond or water stone might. This is also a case of different grit scales giving expectations that don't match the stones actual micron abrasive size: it leaves a much finer scratch pattern than a 2k water stone and an equivalent mi...

Re: Spyderco Waiter's Corkscrew

A long screw with a sharp tip and thin stock, that's over half the width of a cork is the key ingredient most knife companies fail to include on their wine knives (plenty of $10 French and Italian designed food service grade waiter screws nail this, with cheap looking, but highly effective tools for...
