Re: Improvement suggestions for your favorite Spyderco knives?

Re-dos of existing designs that would benefit from high apex stability steels...

REX45 Nilakka anyone? AEB-L Kiwi 4? so many possibilities :D

They would probably only be plausible as flash batches, but the potential is huge.

Re: Tactical Pens Revisited

no way would I use my fountain pen as a weapon... I'd be looking for a rock or a pointy stick before I risked trashing a nib!

Re: V-TOKU 2 Love

UPDATE: a third sharpening finally went deep enough in the core steel to eliminate the brittle edge issues my Endura was having, some yard work today including cutting a few small limbs on hardwoods (one fully seasoned), followed by breaking down several cardboard boxes left no damage whatsoever and...

Re: V-toku2 observation and update

Gotta love the little-big D'fly! I was the one with an Endura that was having terrible wire edging for the first two sharpenings (which I didn't realize the first time 'round, but resolved on the second go) and 1 to 2mm sections of the edge fracturing out with normal cutting tasks. It seems like min...

If one has extra clips, would one be allowed to give them away to forum members, or wouldn't one?

what are these "extra clips" you speak of? aren't you planning on getting more Spydercos, and might they not need a clip some day?? :D

Re: Kapton washers

I'd guess that the kapton washers are even thinner, but .005" phosphor bronze washers might be thin enough to work... The PB washers are available from several knife making stores. This auction has kapton washers, but they're .005" just like the bronze: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Kapton-Polyimide-Roun...

Re: AFI Performance Flash Batch

In concept I'm on board 100%, but the task of picking a design, steel, color and bevel that gets 250 AFIs excited enough to purchase is going to give Sal, Eric & Co. nightmares... I'd vote for the Centofante 3 (or 4) with standard stock thickness, but in FFG, with a "safe" scale color, or an N5 LW t...

Re: V-TOKU 2 Love

The Endura has a new edge with enough stock removed to be well past the damaged areas... Now some pocket time and reasonable use ought to tell if this is a bad HT through and through, or just a surface irregularity. An interesting note: there was less tendency to form a wire edge this time around, e...

Re: Why Do People Hate Knives?

As a wise man here once said, "The only real weapon is your mind. Everything else is just a tool." The people who fear everything fear responsibility the most. They were raised to accept no blame, to take no responsibility for their actions, and they believe everyone else is just like them, to they...

Your views on machetes?

I know this gets attention from time to time, but I'll drag it up again... What's your view of the machete format? Do you have one to clear brush all day? In a "bug-out bag"? For zombie defense? Because it was featured in a survival show? To cut pig carcasses in half? What do you expect from your ma...

Re: New stones for Edge Pro (for Maxamet)

Moldmasters are excellent and cheap, but I definitely prefer the Gritomatic/Venev bonded diamond stones for difficult to grind steels (and basic steels for that matter!). That said, Maxamet is surprisingly easy to work with.

Re: Grid Down: EMP or Natural Event

If there was an EMP attack we would have even bigger worries than being without electricity... As far as natural overload of the electrical distribution system (huge solar flare) goes, AFAIK the distribution network has had disconnects to prevent or lessen system-wide damage built in for many years ...

As Peter1960 noted, in this case CZ refers to the Czech firearms maker. I own a CZ85 Combat 9mm pistol with the .22lr adaptor and a CZ82 surplus police/military pistol. I also have two CZ rifles...

Re: V-TOKU 2 Love

Dang! my Endura must have been the one and only dud in the whole run... I have recurring breakouts in the edge, big (over 1mm long) sections that just crack away leaving flat spots on the edge. That and sharpening is wretched as well, with wire edge a-plenty (and no, the cracked off edge isn't just...

Re: Banks: One Of The Biggest Rip-OFF Con Jobs Ever

Not that I think $8 is a fair fee for cashing a check (or that charging to cash a check drawn on that bank is acceptable), but with interest earnings so low these days, banks have to find other ways to generate income so they can keep their doors open... Good luck with your quest to forgo bank patro...

When have you been there? I got to visit Salzburg twice, back when my ex worked for Salzburg Seminar (2004 and 2005?). Salzburg is a pretty awesome small city! I biked a lot on borrowed bicycles and was impressed by how safe and easy riding in traffic was, much more so than in my small home town in...
