Re: Blade Show 2016 Videos, Photo's, Reports and Gossip

We were only at Blade on Saturday. The Spyderco table was very crowded. I did manage to speak, briefly, to Michael Janich fairly early, and to Joyce near closing time. The only knives I handled were the Ronin II, and Temperance II, to confirm a good fit in my hands, for consideration as future purch...

Re: What "Other" is in your pocket???

I recently added a Victorinox Swisstool Spirit to my nearly-everyday carry ensemble. At the moment, I am evaluating a Crawford Custom Knives* Kasper Scorpion, fixed-blade, for somewhat-regular, if not daily, carry. Though retirement is not too many years away, I can, as a peace officer, presently ca...

Re: Blade 2016: who's going?

We arrived Friday night, and went to Blade on Saturday. Weather in SE Texas had caused us to delay leaving, by a day, so we could not make it to the Show on Friday. The Spyderco display was so crowded, I did not see much. I was able to confirm that the handle of the Temperance 2 is a good fit in my ...

Re: Bird-Defense Spyderco?

I was body-slammed by a 48-pound turkey, once upon a time. As he did not press the attack, no defense was needed. Unless I sold him, when he was ready for the oven, he got the axe, brand name now forgotten.

Re: Your Average Spyderco Knives' Purchases in USD

Well, for about the past decade, I have averaged very few USD spent on Spyderco knives, per year, because I bought so many good ones in the late Nineties, into this century, up to the production time of the Gunting and original Ronin and Yojimbo. I bought enough Guntings and Ronins to average severa...

Re: An idea for those with blade length laws

Actually, issue with the original (extinct flightless pigeon) is not its "flickability." What did the apple do to somebody named Isaac, and why? No flicking is necessary. No centrifugal force is necessary.

Re: An idea for those with blade length laws

On the original subject, I like the idea of a shorter-blade knife with a full-sized handle, especially a handle completely identical to that of a normal-length knife. Knowing this would not likely be realized as a production item, I had considered having a local custom maker re-grind a Gunting to ma...

Re: An idea for those with blade length laws

That could certainly be true. I know I had a co-worker back in NY who loved the (Dxxx.) NY, or at least NYC, is one place where I would most hesitate to carry an (extinct flightless pigeon wth grotesquely curved beak.) I am not sure about the current version, but the original version, of which my w...

Raising poultry and fowl and building chicken coops. That hobby is growing in popularity latly like you wouldnt believe If I can convince my wife to move to a more-rural area after I retire, it would be nice to keep a few fowl and poultry again, for the first time since the Eighties. She is, alread...

Re: What are ya drinkin????

I am about to brew some Numi brand Emperor's Pu-Erh tea. It is a fairly strong black tea, with leaves harvested from old-growth tea trees. The taste is not as bitter as something like English Breakfast tea, but more malty.

Re: Your favorite spyderco that you believe is perfect

Perfect? No Spyderco is perfect. Had I the skill, I might be abe to make the perfect EDC knife for myself, but it would not, likely, be perfect for anyone else. Having said that, the Spyderco Gunting is quite close to the perfect folder for me. The handle shape and size are the best I have found, f...

Re: Blade 2016: who's going?

I would say the chances are better than even, that I, and probably my nephew, will stop in the Atlanta area, for a day or two, during Blade. I will try to remember to bring my Usual Suspect name badge, which will display "Rex G." I cannot yet commit to being there at any particular day or ...

Re: Let's talk about pistol holsters...

When toting revolvers, I really like the Milt Sparks PMK for the smaller to medium-large weapons, up to K/L-frame/GP100 size. The Milt Sparks 200AW is really nice, too, but its long tunnel loop is not compatible with all belt loop spacing, and the hammer shroud is not needed for my revolvers that ha...

Re: Sandals: Any good recommendations?

Don't buy any brand unless the toe/ankle straps go completely under the foot and sole. If they don't, the straps which are merely glued into the sole will pull out. I live in/around the water and Teva are the only ones I spend my hard earned money on. Other brands have failed catastrophically.. was...

Re: The Big Three

It would be interesting and enlightening to read comments on what you would consider to be the "big three" Spyderco knives, one knife per category. As a user, I am focused on three categories of knives, 1. small folder for everyday tasks, 2. large folder as both an EDC/task and for those ...
