All I know is I spent a couple of years where I cut a lot of cardboard up and the better the steel the easier my life was. These days I probably could make do with something more basic, but a H1 knife sure is handy in the garden and I like not having to sharpen my ZDP Lum very often and really that'...

I carry a matriarch sometimes with SD in mind. Hopefully I'll never have to use it obviously, but it's nice to have it available if need be (more options are a good thing). I've never used it for any other purpose. The Civilian's always seemed a bit too expensive/bulky for that purpose for me so if ...

Oh, the individual gets accused of gouging too, even if the price was set by auction, but the stores have more to lose in terms of long term goodwill so it's just not worth it for them.

With the new pricing structure (much cheaper to list but more expensive if you sell the item) it's now worth it to take a chance selling on eBay and list all kinds of random crap - even more than before. Especially if you're willing to start it at a penny.

That's very cool! And people really should cut Golden some slack - it's typical city government - they put in some rules that seem like a good idea, and when an exception comes up it's not always really straightforward to let a good project to go through while at the same time being fair to everybod...

That's what I use mine for. It does get really scratched up but who cares, it's a gardening knife. Just sails through things like ivy though.

I spent a little bit of time writing software used to manufacture some electronics gear (mostly testing the device once it was done) and there's definitely some interesting tradeoffs you can make. The more manufacturing you have in an area, the more skilled people you get at all levels, and the more...

Personally I'd rather see it sold to somebody who wants it on eBay than mouldering in a knife case in a store somewhere.

Yeah, that cricket's a nice knife. It does a good job on a large number of tasks, and you can definitely find yourself using that hooked tip and thinking "why don't my other knives have this?"

I usually bring a SS cricket. I'm sort of hoping it doesn't particularly look like a knife when closed, and that way I at least have something. On a longer trip I'll bring something like a serrated ZDP Delica which is unlikely to need sharpening for a while and put it in with the underwear and hope ...

I'd call Spyderco and see if they want first crack at it, otherwise I'm sure Sierra will do the right thing. They seem like pretty reasonable folks.

I use my ZDP SE Delica quite a bit and like it a lot. Cuts great. I don't think it's really any harder to sharpen than a VG-10 SE blade. Maybe if you really let it get disgusting, but if you're on the "quick touchup" plan it's no problem. Little tiny bit of chipping - only visible when the...

Not collector-rare but there are definitely people who would like one and not a lot of folks giving them up. Personally I'd rather have one than a civilian so that's not really an option.

It could be a couple of things. It's definitely possible to have a burr coming out of the steel that feels sharp and may cut for a bit but gets knocked off fairly easily. You don't really have a healthy edge. One concept worth knowing is that if the edge is currently, let's say at 35 degrees. If you...

Put another way, it's like a bike helmet. It gets used once (not used in the sense of carrying it on your head, used in the sense of smacking the pavement) and you buy a new one since it's likely to have suffered damage while saving your life. Likewise the Civilian is basically a disposable use once...

Those keychain knives are quite effective, and the serrations whip through things like tubing very nicely indeed. If you're cutting a bunch of stuff the larger knives are nicer if only because the handle fits your hand better, but if you just need to cut a couple of random things over the course of ...
