Re: Future for Centofante?
I have a Centofante 3 - it is the best slicer I own and the most comfortable handle. I would definitely buy a sprint model with a different steel.

Sharpmaker white stones
I'm no expert at knife sharpening, but I've found that the Sharpmaker brown stones put a pretty sharp edge on a knife blade. What exactly do the white stones add to this? The ability to slice a hair? I don't spend a lot of time slicing (or splitting) hairs.

Re: When was the last time you washed your smelly sharpmaker stones
Wow - Bartender's Friend and a scrubbing pad worked like a charm. Good as new. I assume the stones don't work as well with the gunk on them.

Re: Main Blade Scratch Removal ZDP 189? Sandpaper .
The same thing happened to me while sharpening my Caly 3 in ZDP-189 with diamond rods. One or two scratches from real use adds character to a knife. A bunch of scratches from sharpening the blade doesn't.

Re: Who's for replacing ZDP-189 with HAP40 laminate in regular production?
OK, I must have missed that - that's useful information. My sharpening skills are limited. I have a Sharpmaker, with the standard brown and white rods. If I can't sharpen a knife with this, I should get out the knife hobby and take up fishing - which I might not be any more successful at, but which ...

Re: Who's for replacing ZDP-189 with HAP40 laminate in regular production?
Yes, I watched that video. But it doesn't even mention ease of sharpening - the video is entirely about edge retention. I understand that if you're a steel expert comparing two high-end steels like ZDP-189 and HAP40, ease of sharpening isn't an issue: you already have the tools to sharpen either equ...

Re: Who's for replacing ZDP-189 with HAP40 laminate in regular production?
After reading this thread, I searched online for articles comparing knife steels, to see what they had to say. But I can't find any that include Hap40 in the comparison. Is there a steel similar to Hap40 with a different name that might be included in any of these articles?

Re: Am i just lucky with my super steels?
I have two versions of the Caly 3, one in zdp-189 with a carbon fiber handle, and the other the sprint in hap40 with a g10 handle. I'm probably only going to keep one, so I was thinking I should keep the hap40 because I have read it's easier to sharpen and I'm not very good at knife sharpening (I'd ...

Re: Para 3 vs Sage 5
I have a Sage 5 which now seems to be broken in - after four years of owning it. Until recently, the action seemed quite stiff, and I was continually fiddling with the pivot screw. I was perplexed by this because I had heard that the Paramilitary 2 and 3 had very smooth actions, and I assumed that t...

Re: New Models Dropped: Caly 3 HAP40 Sprint, Para 3 CRUWEAR Sprint
https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4341/37067554735_d548d6be35_k.jpg Untitled by Todd Crawford , on Flickr Thanks Todd. When I first saw the 4 ounce spec on the Caly 3, I couldn't understand how the G10 scales could possibly add an ounce to the weight of the knife. Obviously they didn't. So now my ques...

Re: New Models Dropped: Caly 3 HAP40 Sprint, Para 3 CRUWEAR Sprint
I just got mine yesterday, and it doesn't feel any heavier than my Caly 3 with carbon fiber handle, which I believe is just around 3 ounces. If I have a chance, I'll weigh the new one at the Post Office and post the result.twinboysdad wrote:Also, is that Caly REALLY 4 ounces??

Re: Sage 5 is the new Para 3
I got a Sage 5 over the Para 3 based on the blade shape - I prefer the slimmer blade of the Sage 5, and I'm not a fan of the straight line on the spine of the Para 3. Also, since I rarely do any "heavy use" tasks with a knife, I prefer the thinner blade of the Sage 5. I can't really compar...

Re: buff backspacer on Caly
Thanks to all for taking the time to respond to my post. I don't have a belt grinder, so I'm not going to do anything about the chip. If it could have been removed by some hand sanding, I would have given it a shot, but based on all your feedback, it's clearly not worth the trouble.

Sorry, this pic isn't focused very well. The chip is on the top, next to the CF. What grit should I use? Thanks.

Re: buff backspacer on Caly
Pics? I'd start with Flitz. If that doesn't do it sandpaper will be necessary. I'd at least tape the scales off before operating. Can't take the scales off - it's pinned. Actually, there's a small chip on the edge of the backspacer, right next to the scales, so I can't do anything do anything witho...

buff backspacer on Caly
There are some minor scratches on the backspacer of my Caly 3. Is it possible to buff these by hand, or will that damage the carbon fiber? What materials should I use?

How much wider is the Sage 5 handle than the Caly 3? Anyone have a side-by-side picture?

Re: Sage 5 or Caly 3.5 CF zdp189
Good choice! I love my Cal3. I love everything about it. The Caly 3.5 is apparently only a tad bit longer for a longer blade. To me, it is a better knife than the Sage. Sadly, the new Caly 3 HAP 40 weighs nearly as much as the new, and much larger, Police 3. I know G10 is heavier than carbon fiber,...
