Re: A Spyderco OTF?
I would love to see a Spyderco OTF, but I think it is hard to achieve a feature to differentiate from other OTFs while bringing Spyderco brand forward. The biggest issue that OTF knives have, is the stigma from ignorance. Everybody thinks they are tactical, dangerous, this and that, they suffer from...

Re: Doubt regarding H1 sharpening...
That was a nice stuff to read. And to learn more about what I had no idea of hehe. Sadly, I am a person that find anecdotal testimonies rather blurring instead of clarifying. But one thing is certain for me now, the like-hood of hardening H1 by sharpening is extremely low... Which I wrongly used to ...

Re: Doubt regarding H1 sharpening...
I understood what you meant, you meant that based on your experience, the noticeable difference is simply not there, thus, so you would expect that a heavier process (Like machine grinding) would indeed manage to harden such steel.
Problem is, that does not answer what I wrote here...

How can you agree on something you are saying you do not know? o.O
Metallurgy is neither a voodoo or a mystery, it is a science, but most of us are ignorant of it, I wish someone who knows about the H1 steel can explain to us what really happens and may happen.

Re: Doubt regarding H1 sharpening...
Hi PolarisDesu, Are you referring to "stropping"? If so, wouldn't you think that sharpening on stones would remove more steel than stropping? Sorry my English is not my native language. Indeed that is what I meant, but the thing is that when you sharpen on a wet stone, you do so with the ...

Doubt regarding H1 sharpening...
Hello guys, I have been thinking about the H1 steel and recently came to a doubt regarding what really may happen, so I wanted to know if you can explain it to me. Since we are talking about H1, I know that it is a work hardening steel, meaning, the deformation the steel structure has, while you are...

Hello guys,
Do you have any information if the Spyderco Catcherman may or may not come back in the future?

Re: What's the appeal of deep carry?
I'd agree on all points except "Less knife protruding to scratch car paint or get caught in something". I will concede that, to some degree, a deep carry clip reduces the chance of dropping and damaging your knife, or losing it altogether, when it snags on something. However, I'm more inc...

Re: Spydiechef review !
Nemo, you are the guy that posted the review of the Spyderco Catcherman USN from the 2011? I guess you are, it is amazing to see you around, I recently went through that review, was spot on! This one is also spot on, well, I guess I have a little bias for corrosion resistance knives hehe. Thanks for...

Re: H1 Steel for filleting fish
What a beautiful knife... If that is the case regarding an H1 filleting knife, I think you are right about an LC200N filleting knife, or, something with what they believe is the proper steel for filleting knives, that somewhat has a decent corrosion resistance. But I do believe that a filleting knif...

Re: H1 Steel for filleting fish
Thats a sweet knife..i think maybe its the catcherman Thanks for the finding! It seems that is the name indeed. I wonder if more people knows how this knife performs or if there is a fixed blade version of it, basically more information because it looks it has its years. Edit: It seems it came with...

Re: H1 Steel for filleting fish
I have the fish hunter and i love it...it lives in my kayak. That surely is a nice knife, but that was not the knife I saw... The knife I saw had almost the same shape as a filleting knife, but it had serrations, so I think that it would have been perfect with plain edge. Edit: FOUND IT! I knew I s...

H1 Steel for filleting fish
Hello guys, I recently got the Salt 2 with serrations, and honestly, I think the knife is perfect. BUT, I just saw a picture of a long serrated Spyderco knife, which I believe was H1 because of the yellow handle, and due to the long blade, was looking like a filleting knife. It is a little bit late ...

Re: Is this normal? S110V Edge Retention + Bearing cutting a track on Manix 2
Hmmmm I got mine overseas too. The first thing I noticed was that the edge grind was slightly asymmetrical, but a very minor detail, after re-profiling I would say they look the same now. But I feel the steel is really really strong, without signs of wear on the inner groove for grippiness like in y...

Re: Wouldn't a Manix 2 LW in H1 be awesome?
Wouldn't a Manix 2 LW in H1 be awesome? I would buy it right away.... CTS BD1 is arguably comparable to H1 in edge retention, and even though most people got "used" (Or as I would say, spoiled) to high end steels with an extreme hardness level with crazy carbides that hold edges for unnat...

Re: LC200n corrosion resistance
Oh but heat treatment indeed has so much to do with it! Chromium must be free and not in a carbide to provide corrosion resistance. ZDP-189 has 20% Cr, but once hardened, a lot of it is taken up in carbides leaving the steel only semi-stainless. Depending how any steel is processed, it can have a w...

Re: LC200n corrosion resistance
From what I know, different kind of elements make a steel corrosion resistant in different ways... Not so much about the heat treatment. Chromium is a good example, it is the most common element used to make stainless steel. But the issue is more complex than that, because for example, carbon stains...

Re: LC200n corrosion resistance
Hey guys, sorry to step in, I just wanted to know if you know of a place where I can check the corrosion resistance index of the steels like in a chart? But not only for NaCI (Salt) but for acids too. If it exists of course... For example, here is the Datasheet of the S110V but to be honest, I find ...

Re: NYC Pen Knife
Today I got my 2nd Spyderco (and 2nd knife I own), the funny thing is that it is a Manix 2 LW s110v, is a knife designed by Eric, who is the son of Sal, the designer of the Pen Knife that I got first. So we can say that Sal got me into Spyderco, and Eric kept me in... I will keep my Pen Knife for da...
