And in terms of defensive knife measures, if the knife comes out it's not because I'm trying to hurt my attacker or make him consider another target. It's because I want him off me NOW and will do anything necessary. The most effective way to do this is a stabbing motion, not a swing/slice. I'd take ...

Summary
To summarize, I don’t like Striders for their looks. I like them because they accomplish what I need them to with the least amount of fuss and the most confidence. My “perfect blade” is a Nightmare recurve. Again, based on function, not looks. I don’t even want my knives to look tactical. My MSC SMF ...

Price
In terms of price, I should shed some light. Much more goes into factoring the cost, wholesale price and retail price of a product than the actual materials in the product itself. My automotive engineering program obviously covered manufacturing techniques and costs.

EDC Compromises
However, for EDC duties, I find myself needing a knife that can in fact cut, but do much more as well. I have found myself too many times with a knife for slicing, wishing I weren’t about to snap it but knowing the need is more important than the knife at the time.

Hard Use Mentality
I used to be careful about “knives are for cutting”. Spyderco’s did all the cutting chores I asked of them. Then I got curious. I think it started with a SMF. You hold it, and realize that it’s solid. Not that other knives weren’t. But this one really is different. You play with it. You get hooked ...
