Re: Chaparral lock bar and spring

From what I have read the lock bar spring tension is variable. A few are easy, most are difficult to release and a few are just painful. Check Nick’s Chaparral reviews. It’s a gentleman’s folder with a thin, sharply cornered lock bar release. Shouldn’t take excessive force, enough to leave dents in ...

The innovations on/of the Smock far outweigh the Ikuchi.
It's quite obvious to me !!
Not to me. I think both are very innovative and well executed. Different obviously. I hope to try out a Smock some day.

Until then…

Chaparral lock bar and spring

Got my new Chaparral FRN today. It was fine except for the blade action being a bit stiff (no surprise for a new knife) and the lock bar was also difficult to depress. Doing so would leave a groove in my thumb. Following Sharp Guy’s advice I disassembled it, easy enough, cleaned the factory lubrican...

Re: Eric Glesser breaks down the Para 3 LW!

Black is fine with me, especially for the first release, as is BD1N. For its intended uses as a lightweight EDC knife, the construction looks fine. I’m curious about the single PB washer and abbreviated “liner” incorporating the compression lock. It is a neat design but I’m waiting for some use revi...

I get that they're prob just copying the SK23(?) but that's my opinion on owning it.
It is not a copy. Spyderco made certain changes for their own reasons. As I said before, I will reserve judgement until I handle a Smock.

Re: 9mm vs 40 S&W vs 45 ACP

Long ago when we raised our own meat, we would butcher two pigs every year. I always shot them half way between the eye and the ear hole with a .22 Magnum. It only took one.

Re: Vote: SMOCK v.s. IKUCHI

I have often been fooled by how a knife looks rather than how it works for me: balance, grips, overall ergonomics, cutting and slicing performance, operation (opening, closing, unlocking, security when carried). Clips are replaceable or removable so they don’t make much difference to me. I was meh… ...

I don’t really have a system but usually my Great Eastern Cutlery Pemberton with a Spyderco. The Chaparral FRN is pictured here, but lately it’s been my Ikuchi.

Re: Disabled Knife Self Defense

Wow! Bonjoc is something to behold. In some ways, a chair may provide a psychological and perhaps positional advantage. Perhaps the end of this year, or early next, we will be in Northern California, a ways from Stockton. But I will see if there are any basic clinics that I could begin with in Color...

Disabled Knife Self Defense

Mike Jancich, thank you for your serious and well stated approach to knife SD. From what I have read here and other places, training that puts various knife SD philosophies is focused on individuals that have all of their basic motor skills intact. But, I and some of the people I know are either eld...
