Re: Buying in the UK

The guys at www.heinnie.com are brilliant. They know their stuff and dispatch super quickly. Prices are generally competitive compared to other UK retailers. Their exclusive UKPK (red G-10) is also beautifully executed Seconded. In fact their current HH special UKPK is an absolute bargain, same pri...

Re: "Your IP has been blocked because it is blacklisted"??

It's just started blocking "Three" mobile network in the UK. Hutchison 3G UK Ltd. Three uses CGNAT so the ip address is common across most of the user base, so it can't be due to any specific behaviour. At the moment it seems like the only way round is to use VPN as I'm doing just now. The...

Re: Your New Knife Ritual

Sharpen it. I've only once had a knife or tool that didn't need sharpening straight away. It takes a few sharpening cycles to get it run in anyway.

Re: Purchase limits on Sprints/Exlusives

Repeating popular Sprints would be one option. I expect the practicalities of production scheduling would mean a Sprint couldn't be repeated immediately, but if prospective purchasers knew that a rapidly sold out Sprint was going to come round again then that would take some of the heat out of the ...

Re: UK PK Love? future releases?

I wonder if tooling up for the HH dealer exclusive makes it easier for Spyderco to make other G10 versions. Not sure how much of the HH model is in fact "exclusive" but I would guess that G10 in a different colour would be OK. Have there ever been any actual UKPK Sprints? I've seen them sp...

Re: Large slipjoint Spydie, anyone?

That was a nice looking knife, the prototype with black scales and rounded over edges. It would be nice to have a lanyard hole though, I'm not sure any current slip joints have one.

Re: Urban LW pivot screw

I would not worry about it but it is getting worse. Even with lubricant it is getting stiffer. How can that be? My UKPK did that, roughness inside the pivot hole in the blade was tearing up the pivot. I sent it to Golden and it came back fixed and has stayed fixed. I'm not sure what they did, I gue...

Re: Sprints

I wonder if Spyderco would consider doing repeat runs if a Sprint looks like it's selling out quickly. I don't know how the logistics and risks compare for a second run compared to a larger initial batch. If there's a reasonable chance that everyone who's interested would be able to purchase through...

Re: Spyderedged Blades: A Total Mis-Understanding Maybe?

Anyone else think they'd prefer the serrations on the other side? I'm right handed and it feels wrong having the flat side of the knife to the right.

Re: Have you had a folding knife open on accident?

Happened to me with an Opinel back when I was a kid. Of course I hadn't rotated the lock and it came open in my pocket. Gave me a nasty jab at the base of my thumb. Or maybe I should say "I gave myself a nasty jab".

Maybe if I didn't already have two Urbans I would put up with those defects. But this is a $110 knife over here so I'm going to pass.

Re: S30v

Does the public in general worry about whether a given brand is more rust resistant than another? I would expect a lot just expect anything called "stainless" to be rust resistant.

If you consider normal people, I think a lot don't even sharpen their knives when they get blunt.

Re: S30v

Thanks for all the sharpening comments. I only have one blade in S30V, the HH UKPK limited edition. Currently it's unsharpened, just in ex-factory form. It's a nice piece so I want to start off with at least roughly the right edge form.

Re: Knife myths you should not accept as true a priori (meant to be a POSITIVE thread!)

My most carried knife is a combo UKPK. The sharpening issue that I face is reconciling the angles, between 15 degrees per side on the plain part, and 20 degrees one side and almost zero on the other for the serrations. What I end up doing is sharpening the segments separately, either just the plain ...

So as a newcomer to S30v, what are the best sharpening methods? Angle, grit fineness, stropping etc. How do the experts maintain theirs.

Re: Knife myths you should not accept as true a priori (meant to be a POSITIVE thread!)

My father taught me at a very young age that dull knives are, in fact, more dangerous than sharp ones because you need to press so hard to make them cut that your control goes out the window. But on the other hand a blunt knife won't cut your leg if you're careless cutting a sandwich on your lap (n...

Too bad you've not had good experiences but I can assure you that it is not exaggeration. Your case is an anomaly.
Maybe. I find it odd though. My sample includes a normal UKPK, Urbans in Elmax and K390, HH special UKPK and a HAP40 Dragonfly. That's a reasonable sample I thought.
