Re: BHQ Shaman Exclusive DLC/M4
It may be that the bots didn't get any which is extending the number and the time that they're available to human buyers. If that's true, then it shows how much of a problem bots are in other sprint sales.

Re: BHQ Shaman Exclusive DLC/M4
BHQ is using Recaptcha in the shopping cart which limits bots. This is good. This may be why the experience is so good.

Re: TKJ Spyderco exclusive cruwear ????
Here is a Cloudflare employee describing their data store, saying that it is designed for frequent and fast reads, but not frequent writes. A data store during a sprint run is going to be hammered both ways, needing to be able to handle both frequent reads and writes with a queue in front of the dat...

Re: TKJ Spyderco exclusive cruwear ????
No. Cloudflare is a very good reverse proxy. AWS, Azure, et al offer many other services to host your entire stack and automatically scale based upon demand in real-time, which is what's needed here if you want to get away from your generic ShoppingCarts'R'Us.com that can't handle the load during a ...

Re: BHQ Shaman Exclusive DLC/M4
It's been that way for a while. Sounds like BladeHQ is taking steps to combat it, I guess we'll see if they are successful I'm just getting back into collecting after being out of the game for a few years. I feel like I woke up in a new century and things are completely different. I don't want to t...

Bots ordering sprints and exclusives is next level. That's insane.

Re: TKJ Spyderco exclusive cruwear ????
Raise the price of the knife by $10,000, bam, I've solved your website traffic issue. Sys admin job done, I deserve a beer. :D I think this is tangential but very much related. I respect what Spyderco does very much. Sal's ethos and his principles permeate Spyderco as a business. There is much more...

Re: TKJ Spyderco exclusive cruwear ????
You guys are dancing on the head of a pin. Being detail-oriented is part of our job in this industry. Having worked in the financial services industry before, every penny in millions of calculations and transactions had to be accounted for. When I write 10,000 lines of code, one incorrect character...

Re: TKJ Spyderco exclusive cruwear ????
I didn't say this wasn't difficult and/or not expensive, what I was trying to say is specifically with website traffic it shouldn't be unexpected or incapable of being planned for. If a company is launching a product and hyping it through social media, you should be actively preparing for high traf...

Re: TKJ Spyderco exclusive cruwear ????
I appreciate the responses and will respectfully address them. I think everyone who responded are not accounting for some challenges which must be overcome in order to have a relatively successful release online release. It doesn't matter if sprints and exclusives are new or not. A resilient system ...

Wow, that's amazing! Funny thing is I think about that knife a lot when I am out chopping in my woods. Thanks for posting :) I still have my 2000 SF workshop that is split between knife making/metal working and wood working with a small section for reloading, but these days I spend 99% of my time i...

Re: TKJ Spyderco exclusive cruwear ????
I design and create software systems for a living, which appears to be what caused many of the perceived issues in this case. Software for people like me is not difficult but I do not work with a team of fewer than 5 fellow engineers whose rate is $200+/hour. To ensure that a release like this is do...

Re: KC Exclusive Shaman Rosewood REX 45
I apologize for being off the main thread topic, but I couldn't resist after seeing Chad Pirtle post here. Chad made this chopper at least 8 years ago. I still love it; I just took it out to touch up on the strop last week. I was looking at it and wondering what you'd been up to and if you'd made an...

Re: Sal, have you ever tested stainless steel knives in the dishwasher?
I just edited my reply. It was two years ago, but I think she told me the clothes washer was safe, in a pants pocket. Not the dishwasher. I think that is correct.

Re: Sal, have you ever tested stainless steel knives in the dishwasher?
When I called the Spyderco warranty folks about my Manix 2, the woman told me that the easiest way to clean a lot of grit and sand in the lock and pivot was to put it in the dishwasher washing machine in your pants pocket. So they have faith in it. I've never needed to do that, but it's good to know...

Personally, I make things for a living. I'm a scientist/engineer who has worked for manufacturing companies. I engineer systems that hundreds of thousands of people use, either in my company or customers of my company. I'm very aware of how the manufacturing process works and what reasonable expecta...
