Re: China

I think it’s fine to keep (and even expand) the Byrd line, but I generally won’t buy knives made in China, and I’m disappointed that a knife as cool as the Mantra is being made there.

Re: Which spyderco is in the mail?

I've got a Bodacious on the way, along with scales from Applied Weapons Technologies and a 3D machined pocket clip from Ripp's Garage Tech. It should look something like this:

I've had both of these in my pocket today, I can't figure out which one I like more:

Re: Micro-Melt PD#1 Burgundy Sprint Run Spydies In Stk

I cannot get over how great the Stretch 2 XL LW is. It is so freaking light! Here's a comparison between it and the Military (which I love too). Nearly equal blade lengths but the Stretch is significantly lighter, slicier, and more compact in the pocket:

Re: Micro-Melt PD#1 Burgundy Sprint Run Spydies In Stk

Got my Stretch 2 XL LW in today! Just an incredible knife. It needs to be held and used to be believed.

By the way, for me and my weak pockets, the stock clip is a bit tight and seems to snag on them. I slapped on an MXG Gear Ti clip on my VG10 version and love ...

My first Stretch, the Stretch 2 XL LW PD#1. STOOKKKKEEEEDDDDDDDDD
I got one too! (GP Knives notified me this morning they had them in stock. Looks like they sold out already.) The Stretch 2 XL LW is one of my favorite knives. An incredible amount of slicing power that weighs almost nothing.

Re: Another run of Whale Rescue Blade is needed.

I’d love to get your input on how you think this knife would work as a machete vs a plain edge.

I've used this one a fair amount puttering around in the garden and woods, and it works really well as a sort of hand scythe. It cuts through softer plants and vegetation like butter. But it has a ...

I'm happy to see my Frankenwhale knife featured in this thread! Here's another picture:

The handle (peel-ply orange G1) was done by Knockwood Blades and the blade tip was reprofiled by bladechops (or so he goes on instagram).

Re: 2023 - Did your preferences change or stay the same?

Over the last couple years (and last year especially) my preference has been towards larger knives, especially larger folders with clips. But I still like them light! I used to think the Military was too big but for some reason it's perfect for me now (and the PM2 seems a little squashed in ...

Re: SNK Manix 2 LW is coming!!!

Just got mine yesterday! I’m always impressed by the quality of the Manix 2 LW. Light as a feather but totally solid lockup, smooth, centered, snappy action, just so crisp and clean, not to mention the near-perfect design and great steel.

Catcherman LC200N Sprint Run

Re: Is the Native chief supposed to be hard to open?

As others have mentioned, lock backs (or back locks, same thing) have a spring which creates a bias towards closure. They also don't have detents. The spring pressure combined with the lack of detent makes flicking non-ideal. But some back locks can still be flicked open. It depends on the geometry ...

Re: Why are seki city spydercos so different?

Here's my interpretation of the OP's point: Spyderco's Seki-made lockbacks are simple, nearly indestructible (within reason), dependable, fully ambidextrous, ergonomic, are fantastic cutters, and are relatively affordable. The question is why don't other knife companies try for the same formula? The ...
