Re: MAP policy change? 35%

The problem is everyone keeps saying that Spyderco is doing this because they have to pay for the CQI, new facility space, new machinery, etc. Is there a reading comprehension problem on this thread? I'm dead serious. SPYDERCO GETS NO EXTRA MONEY, PER SAL. NOTHING. NADA. ZILCH. Only the dealers are ...

Re: MAP policy change? 35%

So you think dealers should be happy to carry and promote the brand to make $5 on a $100? Many dealers don't bother selling Spyderco as there is not enough meat on the bone. This is not greed, it's economic reality. As I was saying, I sell Spyderco because I love the brand and they are what got me ...

Re: MAP policy change? 35%

So Spyderco gets nothing and the dealers get everything. If Spyderco was getting more then yeah, but just the dealers get more? That's sad in a way I can't even express. Could you tell us which dealers pushed for this?

Re: MAP policy change? 35%

I'd say it's time for a knife dealer to chime in and add some real world information to this debate. 1st off I sell Spyderco because I love the brand and respect Sal Glesser and his way of treating people. I don't sell it because there is a lot of money in it, because there isn't. Let's use the ven...

Re: MAP policy change? 35%

I want to compare prices for people so they actually see what this price increase means. I'll compare 2 back-lock folders of similar size and weight from 2 very popular companies. Knifeworks.com prices Spyderco Endura 4- 35% Map comes to a $87.71. TiNi'd VG-10 and FRN at 3.4oz Cold Steel Broken Skul...

Re: New catalog

The only change I would make to the catalog is a pic to show the thickness of the handles from the rear. That would be a big help when trying to guess if a handle is the right size for people!

Re: If you could pick one discontinued knife to turn into a sprint..

The Dodo in plain edge. I got into Spyderco folders about decade too late to get one. I'd take one in FRN, FRCP, or G10. S30V, CTS-XHP, CTS-BD1, or any steel Golden would make them in. Any way I can get it.

Re: Any interest in a PM2 with LC200N

If they can make the Caribbean then why couldn't they Salt-ize the PM2? Both are comp lock folders with, 2 screws on the scales, nested steel liners, barrel lined lanyard holes, and hourglass clips. You just use the same materials and hardware on the PM2 that's being used on the Caribbean. The PM2 i...

Re: We need more Wharncliffes!

Ok, now don't go lighting me on fire and tossing me into the bushes here but... What about instead of a traditional Wahrnie, it was more Xacto shaped? Just for visuals, imagine laying a straight edge across a Manix 2 blade from the tip to where it meets the ricasso. Not a super steep angle but defi...

Re: We need more Wharncliffes!

A Wharncliffe Manix 2 or Para Military 2 would be just sweet! I'd be in for sure and the semi or open construction of the two make Wharnie-Izing them a fairly easy proposition just looking at them. I'd really like a LW M2 version too. I might even break my rule of no more Japanese Spydies for that E...

Re: Decisions, decisions...

Get yourself a Delica or Endura, and then make your second one a Caribbean or Pacific Salt. The Caribbean is not out yet but it will not disappoint, nor will the Pacific Salt. Those two are 100 percent rust proof and hold great edges. Do a search on here for posts by SurfGringo and see how the H1 s...

Re: From which company does Spyderco get their Japanese steel?

Man is it really confusing having someone who doesn't know much about steel named mastiff and someone who knows a LOT about steel named The Mastiff. It feels like April Fools every day! I didn't say anything bad about the steel, I was just hoping that Spyderco wasn't getting it from Kobe. Kind of w...

Re: Clip Preference

Wire clips got my vote. Less hot spots, no cheap paint to rub or flake off, and only one significantly larger screw that is much less likely to strip or break just make wire clips a better choice. That larger screw is something I think everyone else missed when looking at advantages that the wire cl...

If you go damascus why not go all the way and do Raffir Noble scales? Now that would be different. I'd love to see that mock up!

Re: Back After a Few Years... Thoughts on LW Knives.

A LW Manix 2 is my constant home companion even though I dislike the steel, I'll probably upgrade to a S110V LW version at some point. I love the G10 Manix 2 but it's just too heavy for basketball shorts. I didn't like it at first but the LW grew on me I guess. I still carry my DLC Manix 2 at work a...

Re: I Hate Japanese Spydies, Sorry

I think a lot of people misunderstand what my problem was and what I agreed to do about it. I'll be calling warranty and repair on Tuesday. I have no problem with the steel, design, FRN, or ergos of the Japanese made knives. I like them a lot and that's why I'm so disappointed. I'm not condemning a ...

Re: I Hate Japanese Spydies, Sorry

Returning 6 folders would have cost around $30 or more- seems stupid when the fix is a clean workplace and/or an air nozzle at the factory. It comes down to either laziness or complacency. Also remember that my taking them apart when I did voided the warranty on all but the last two because that pol...
