Re: Need some help: USN Ladybug Hawkbill
I'll have to keep my eye out for another. I need a hawkbill to open heavy paper bags (think Kitty Litter!) and those are perfect. His prices are very good for the personalization he does.

Re: Need some help: USN Ladybug Hawkbill
I just got a Ladyhawk a couple of weeks ago, and it was my first Hawkbill (and first LadyBug).
So far I am really liking it! (I now want a Tasman more than before...)
I only carry it as a supplemental folder so I find it much more useful being SE, since most of my other primary carry folders are PE ...

Re: Disassemble a tight Native knife?
Yes, I would and I will check out the for sale forum here and other places.
As far as I know there is not for sale section here...
I like getting deals, but with all of the fake Spydercos out there these days, I buy only new from reputable dealers.
Sorry, I must have been thinking of ...

Re: Disassemble a tight Native knife?
.....
If you are planning to use this knife, <ed. Native 5> may be you will consider to buy lightly used? Sometimes I see them on "for sale" section of BF. They are less expensive and you always can ask the owner how easy to open.
Good luck in your search. This is a good knife.

Re: Disassemble a tight Native knife?
I've got a Sage, and it functions fine. Also have a Manix 2 which is also fine. Neither have been oiled or had the pivot screws adjusted. But I don't EDC them, they are mainly part of my collection. The Native's I have been using for EDC, rotating along with a Dragonfly, Delica and Salt 1.....among ...

Re: Disassemble a tight Native knife?
Caly 3 would be on my short list also.
I sent the Native 5 back to the store today. The person to whom I spoke said all the Native 5 models she tried were stiff......I just asked for a store credit instead of an exchange. If she is right, I don't want to waste shipping ANOTHER one back to them ...

Re: Need some help: USN Ladybug Hawkbill
Ha ha, I guess I am in the minority here! As a retired Naval officer, I have been searching high and low for this interesting U nited S tates N avy (USN) knife, only to find out it has nothing to do with the "real" USN! <wink, wink>
I will keep looking for a Navy model Spyderco knife ...

Re: Disassemble a tight Native knife?
As someone else said the lock bar screw may need to be adjusted. Here's what I do. I loosen the blade pivot screw a lot. Then I loosen and re-tighten the lock bar screw. This screw needs to be loose enough for the lock bar to move up and down with no resistance. As you adjust this screw check how ...

Re: Disassemble a tight Native knife?
Knutty, did you return it to Spyderco, or the dealer from whom you purchased it? I ordered mine from an online knife store with good credentials and free with coupon shipping. I've used Jeff for at least a dozen Spydercos. No way they sent me a poor quality fake, I suspect, as happened to you, a non ...

Re: Disassemble a tight Native knife?
"... sometimes it's the pivot screw for the back lock that is too tight, not always the blade pivot....just a thought."
I'll give that a try; can't hurt. Yep, I am irritated (mildly) that this Native is so hard to open. I am a big fan of Spyderco models, that's about all I have in my collection ...

Re: Disassemble a tight Native knife?
I may well have to return it. First I thought I'd give a call to Spyderco, they might have a "duh" idea I have not considered.

Re: Disassemble a tight Native knife?
I'm sure it will get better as it's used, but none of my other lock backs (20?) were ever anywhere near as tight as this one. I was going to call Spyderco for their advice......ran out of time. I'll try on Monday and meanwhile open/close/open/close <repeat> as much as I can stand watching TV tonight ...

Re: Disassemble a tight Native knife?
Thanks Johnnie. Interesting there is that much difference in our two examples of the same knife model! My blade was right in the middle of the handle when I got it, and still there now I've loosened the torx screws as much as I think I should.

Re: Disassemble a tight Native knife?
Thanks for the tips on disassembly. However, I think washing it won't help, as it's brand new out of a the box only a few hours ago. I think I will have to call Golden later this morning. I don't know if my problem is considered a "defect", or just (their) acceptable variation between individual ...

Disassemble a tight Native knife?
I have three Spyderco Native knives. My latest acquisition is very, stiff and cannot be open with just one hand.
My first Native I purchased about 2 months ago, an original model FRN with SE blade. That model does not have a torx screw to loosen up the blade action a bit, but it does not need it ...

Re: Is this Paramilitary 2 authentic?
No, the initials are on the blade. The only difference I could see was the two items I mentioned in my original post. I have since contacted the seller and he has issued a refund. To bad, it was a really nice looking knife. If I could verify the steel were S30V I probably would have kept it. I was ...

Is this Paramilitary 2 authentic?
Is this a fake Paramilitary 2?
I became suspicious when opening the knife the first time. It's hard to open, taking two hands. This "new" PM came with no box, but I bought it for a good price knowing that. The knife looks very, very good. I have looked on this forum and others trying to figure out ...

Re: Lubricaton on a Native FRN?
Thanks for that feedback on Nano oil. I got a small (8cc?) applicator of the 10 wt, mainly just to use on my Native, as I think it will be the trickiest to lube as it doesn't have a pivot bolt to remove. But of course I will use it on my other folding knives as needed. I also need a good lube for ...

Re: Lubricaton on a Native FRN?
Thanks for the good information above. I ordered a small (but expensive!) bottle of Nano 10 wt oil, but I am also going to pick up some mineral or Teflon oil to use for other applications which I'll try also. My biggest concern was where to apply the lube, and that has been answered. I have also ...
