Re: Are there any hunters out there?

I’ve used a spy27 mule on a few deer and ended up picking up a beater Spydiechef for field dressing (skinning and quartering). It’s not the perfect solution but it works if I do my part.

I like the Subvert blade size/shape but can’t justify the price for a knife I won’t use that often. Good to see ...

As @RamZar noted, it’s 2.5mm. Just confirmed on the Spyderco website:

Re: I think I want more serrated options

The SE Chaparral redefined the versatility of SE for me. The thin blade stock and more rounded serrations have resulted in slicing feel that rivals a PE (I have the Chaparral LW PE and SE and enjoy comparing them often).

Would love to see similar SE geometry on the Sage 5 in MagnaCut/MagnaMax.

Re: Folding knife for food or use in restaurants

So what happens to a nicely sharpened edge when you repeatedly rub it against a ceramic plate during the course of a meal? Anyone tried this as an experiment to test effect on the edge? It's gotta abrade or roll, right?

It dulls as the ceramic plate is basically a sharpmaker rod. It’s still ...

Re: Sage 5 LW advice

If it gets to where the tip is too close to being exposed you can remove some metal from the spine to bring the tip down deeper into the scales. It will obviously change the blade profile but shouldn’t really impact cutting performance aside from piercing (are you really going to use an EDC knife ...

Re: Sal, will there be more Rex 121?

Even on eBay the secondary market seems reasonable. IMO, knowing these will not be made anymore they would fetch a high price. Maybe it’s low demand as not many people out there want or need something like this for everyday use.

Maxamet is awesome, I have a Para 3 and Native 5 in it. It holds an ...

Yes please. I hear Hawaii is a nice place for such meetings.
Yes please. Round trip tickets from the mainland to Hawaii are way cheaper than the other way around.

I’d be down to take some time off work to take some members fishing.

I’d be up for something with REX121.

What’s the best way to buy on secondary market? In case there is no second release? Are secondary prices hyperinflated?

Reddit. r/Knife_Swap. For the most part I’ve seen fair prices on REX121. Decided to go with Maxamet because I couldn’t wait but kind of ...

Stiff is good … especially in a slipit

To an extent. For my comfort level the UKPK is the minimum stiffness/detent for IWB carry.

The Damasteel Sprint Urban I have borders on too stiff to be safe when closing as the smooth scales and smaller handle don’t provide as secure a grip as the UKPK ...

Oh I definitely agree with that. I wish they'd reengineer all their back locks to open the way the Rock Jumper does, or at least reshape the tangs so that profile. They'll always be harder to open because of the lack of thumb ramp but I think the tang could be tweaked to be easier to open ...

Re: Back lock is

After being "bored" of back locks as they were so common place most of my life, I now find myself wishing some of my favorite models were back locks. Hoping for more Golden backlocks, like a PM2 Skinny (like they did with the Manix2 Backlock, but everything thinner instead of thicker). I think ...

I think Spyderco should go all out and do dark matter fat carbon with MagnaMax.
This in a Sage 5 or Sage 6 since they don’t come in K390. Or a chaparral LW/salt?

Has anybody gotten one yet? I'm anxious for some real-life impressions, but not ready to jump in myself. MagnaCut and a bit pointier blade, or at least a more attractive blade shape, would make this a no-brainer for me. As it is, the design screams "Grab it!", but the price and that spine profile ...

Spyderco Pits 2. Just got it like few hours ago. Fit and finish is superb. Very thin bte. It is a slicer. The implementation of the clip was a nice surprise.

Pacific Salt - started with the SE H1 version and currently carrying the SE LC200N version. This model convinced me that SE is feasible for EDC and awesome for outdoor use (mostly fishing)

Sage 5 LW - compression lock, Taichung fit and finish, and an excellent blade size for EDC. Enjoy the SPY27 ...

Re: I don't understand why Spyderco pivots self loosen

One thing I didn’t see brought up in the discussion on torque spec was surface prep/cleanliness. Any sort of anti-seize or thread locker will serve as lubrication and lead to over-torquing if not accounted for.

Additionally, inconsistent application of thread locker and relatively low torque values ...
