Re: Manix Modifications. What have you done? What do you want to do?
It is significantly lighter (122g vs 96g). The Manix is not a small knife, but IMO it was not a pocket hog with the G10 scales. I carried the AWT version today and found the decrease in weight makes the knife much less noticeable. My translucent green FRCP 20CV weighs in at 82g, and I find that the ...

Re: Manix Modifications. What have you done? What do you want to do?
That is a beautiful knife! Quick question: It looks like it has scales, but you state you are using AWT Agent Linerless Scales. What gives? Is that a trick of the lighting? again, That knife looks amazing!!! Thanks! I'm not sure how it that happened, but definitely a lighting trick as they are line...

Re: Manix Modifications. What have you done? What do you want to do?
This thread (and all the internet chatter) has convinced me to modify my knife. I have a set of AWT scales in Brick Red on the way. As soon as I get them, I will post up with pics...

Venev Scorpion Series stones are awesome. I'd call contact gritomatic and see when they might be getting more.

I am begging Steel Genie to stop and go away. Half of the fun for me is using and sharpening different steels. Being limited to just one would take a lot of joy away from me.

I forgot about those scales! Those were from an exclusive with a hollow ground blade right? Ya, 4v with the hollow grind. https://forum.spyderco.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=81238&p=1269390&hilit=https%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2Fi10ueym.jpg#p1269390 Not sure why someone would take them off that k...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal
I am somewhat of a Venev fanboi, but I think their pastes are awesome. That being said, I am now playing with an unloaded leather strop to "refresh" and maintain my toothy edges. The diamond pastes will definitely get an edge sharp and polished, but I hate how quickly stropping with abrasi...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal
Vivi has started a coarse edge sharpening revolution! His work also inspired me to try finishing with a lower grit than I normally would have stopped at. I had been experimenting freehand with finished edges off the DMT coarse and or fine, as well as the Venev F240. Now I've been inspired to try fi...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal
Hi Bemo. I sharpened the blade for the first time about a week ago. I did this by setting the bevel at 13.5 with a F80, then refining the edge with F150. I used the blade last week to slice some cardboard and cut a bunch of pallet straps. The blade was still sharp, but I wanted to try a lower grit e...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal
Vivi really inspired me to move away from micro-micron stropped polished edges to coarse grit edges. I could not be happier with the results so far. My only regret is spending so much money on stones and strops when I could probably make do with just the F80 and F150 Venev. Please post up with you l...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal
I tried a new sharpening protocol with my Rex45 Native. I kept the 13.5 dps I already had on the blade, but developed a burr and then finished with f80 Venev. I had previously finished with the f150 Venev, and wanted to see if I could get a shaving sharp toothy edge with the coarsest stone in my kit...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Venev stones. Before I purchased the Venev set, I used the KME. To be clear, the KME diamonds are really nice. However, the Venev bonded diamonds are on another level. This is somewhat subjective, but I find the edge to be more refined vs. the same grit on KME or DMT. I used the...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal
Today I sharpened my Rex45 Native for the first time. In my opinion, Spyderco’s Rex45 is just amazing! It works well with a high-grit polish or a low-grit toothy edge. On this knife, I re-profiled the edge to 13.5 dps with f80 Venev. I took the time to get a good burr, remove it, then reform it on t...

Re: Strongest Known Blade Lock for Spyderco Knives?
About 8 or 10 years ago, Cold Steel posted a series of videos where they torture tested other manufacturer's knives. I am pretty sure the Manix was the ONLY knife they tested (other than a few Cold Steel models) to survive every test. The final step was using a hydraulic jack to induce failure, and...

They do, and it is one of my favorite stones to finish with. But... the abrasive "numbers" don't match exactly. There are a lot of people smarter than me that can speak about this more accurately, but here is my thoughts on how the different stone compare. https://i.imgur.com/raFRj8t.jpg

Re: Community Sharpening Journal
Nice work. Maxamet is not the easiest steel to sharpen, but it is far from impossible and rewarding when you get it right. I put off working on this knife for a while because of all the Maxamet horror stories. The edge was super sharp from the factory, so I used it "as is" for months. Aft...
