Re: Community Sharpening Journal, Part 2

free hand will ;)

sounds like a good edge. I use similar ones. 10-12dps,coarse finish, very light edge leading strokes to minimize the burr so despite the low grit finish they shave just fine.

I find these edges last much longer than the thicker, more polished edges most folks run.

12 dps, I like it. Looking good!
Thanks! I would probably go even lower, but the KME won't do it.

Re: Community Sharpening Journal, Part 2

I sharpened my favorite daily carry knife and put a new edge on my new Lil’ Native LW. As usual, I used my KME and Venev bonded diamond stones. Since the Lil’ Native was new, I set the bevel to 12 dps with an F80. I keep almost all my knives at this angle so sharpening is quick and easy. I then ...

Re: VG10 Wear Resistance

Hey, just watched your video.

I agree that geometry is a hard pill to swallow, especially to explain a 3-fold difference. However, think about how much that margin of difference shrank when changing the geometry to a more acute angle, and following some of the sharpening advice here.

I think it ...

Native 5 and Manix LW in 15v - A Dream Come True

Of everything that is in the pipeline, these two new knives are far and away my favorites. I cannot see myself buying anything else until these come out.

Who else is VERY excited to see these knifes become available?

Well, I can't thank all of you enough for sharing all of your experiences using the BBB CPM 15V.

Over the past two years I've noticed there's a lot of strong opinions and misconceptions from folks that haven't even experienced it.

Well, I think it's really cool when people get their hands on it ...

Re: Real World User Experience Sharpening CPM 15V

This is such an awesome thread. I always enjoy these conversations about steels and sharpening.

I sharpened mine using Venev bonded diamond stones. I used the F80 stones to set the bevel at about 12dps, then finished on F150. It was not difficult to sharpen, and the resulting edge was SUPER toothy ...

bento box has had pm2 and para 3? exclusives done in k390 so it is possible for golden to use the steel.
I saw that. Given how popular the Manix and Native 5 are, I would thing offering them in K390 would be totally doable.

Why no K390 Manix or Native 5?

K390 is my favorite steel, and the Manix or Native 5 are my favorite models. Any chance that the we will see those models in K390?

Re: Community Sharpening Journal, Part 2

free hand.

it's faster, you can sharpen at any angle, v or convex edges, you can get tremendously sharp edges with less than a $50 investment, and you'll be much better prepared for field sharpening.

I'd hate using a kitchen knife sharpened at 13dps.

I want to start off by saying that I am ...

Toothy Edge on K390 Dragonfly

https://i.imgur.com/ZHiQPoy.jpg

The K390 Dragonfly was getting a little dull, so I got out the KME and the Venev stones.

While I have a full set of stones up to f1500 + strops, these days I usually only use the f80. The toothy edge lasts a LONG time especially on "super steels". This edge will ...

Re: Manix Modifications. What have you done? What do you want to do?

It is significantly lighter (122g vs 96g). The Manix is not a small knife, but IMO it was not a pocket hog with the G10 scales. I carried the AWT version today and found the decrease in weight makes the knife much less noticeable. My translucent green FRCP 20CV weighs in at 82g, and I find that the ...
