Re: Comfortable carry of full size folder (i.e. Military) running or at the gym

Some people find it comfortable to wear a belly band around their mid or upper abdomen when exercising, as it may tend to slide down less in that position. It should easily accommodate a large knife, and possibly a sub-compact handgun. Speaking of neck carry, a Delica carried tip-up in a Kydex neck ...

Re: About as off topic as it gets....

Good Lord, man! That there is a fish!!! Great catch. NICE fish! Man, I'm happy when I land a three pound rainbow. Of course my tippet is running about 4 lbs test and I tend to use #18 and #20 hooks for my flies when the fish are being persnickety. Michael, I too am a victim of the trout addiction, a...

Re: Fishing Lure Question

The two truly universal lures are a white bucktail jig and a curly tail grub. In various sizes, they will catch anything that will bite an artificial lure. They don't work every time in every place, but if you had to pick one or two, those would be it. For freshwater, the Mepps Aglia and Johnson Bee...

Re: Factory Edge

I introduced Mrs. Squeak to Mr. Waterstone the other day. Did as much deburring as I could on the 1000 grit stone, then set about putting on a 20 dps microbevel. There was one little factory burr that was really stubborn, but I finally got it all smoothed out, and she is now slicing newsprint quite ...

Factory Edge

I was really impressed with the factory edge on my Delica 4. It required absolutely no attention from me, which was a welcome change for a production knife. Out of the box, it shaved a patch on my arm really bald, really fast. I ordered a pink Squeak for my wife for Christmas. I had shown it to her ...

Re: Suggestions: Nice day trip backpack

I highly recommend a surplus USMC ILBE Assault Pack. I picked one up in very good condition last year, and the thing is completely bomb-proof. It will probably still be going on hiking trips when I'm dead and gone. Looks great too. You can usually get a good one in the $40 range if you shop carefully.

PARACORD!!! Neon orange so that whether you drop it in leaves or on snow, it is still visible. 150' divided into 25' lengths.

Some cat litter to provide tire traction on ice.

A wide mouth Klean Kanteen, or at least an old coffee can for melting snow into drinking water.

Full size Multitool.

Re: Thoughts on 440 Steel?

I am an old time loyal Buck fan, and I love my 301, 110, and 525, all in 440HC. The steel snobs can talk all day about how you just have to have S90V, or Super Blue, or whatever, but Buck knows how to make good 440HC, and my knives can tell stories of years of hard use to prove it. 440 ain't fancy, ...

Re: Household Tips

I grabbed some packs of cedar balls and hanging blocks from Target. Works well and smells great. I stayed in the guest house at the old Johnson & Johnson estate for a wedding once a few years ago. Talk about country come to town. I was afraid to even touch anything in that place. Each room had a...

Re: Disappointed with Worker

This doesn't hurt the cutting ability of your knife. Too many people think that if the knife is off center , it affects its performance or use . I have hand made knives from Shosui Takeda that are off center. If you are opening with the finger hole, It actually will center itself down the road. Kni...

Re: Anyone into "traditional" folders?

Traditional slipjoints will always be my first love in the knife world. I still EDC the same Buck 301 Stockman that I've had since I was sixteen. Between my Delica and my LM Wave, I wouldn't really need it, but I always give it pocket space, and it is the knife that comes comes out for everyday cutt...

Re: Work Sharp Field Sharpener

I use the Lansky Blade Medic myself. It saved a poorly done Chaparral and turned it into a really nice pocket knife. I keep one in my kit all the time. It is a great tool. As for the Work Sharp, is it the Guided Field Sharpener? If so, I have not used it but it looks interesting as it has everythin...

Re: Spyderco's Specialty Sharpening Tools

I would think you would need a diamond blade to cut them, at least to do it efficiently. Those ceramic rods are HARD, and a they would probably just eat up most steel cutting blades. Even if you got it to cut through, you would probably lose a lot of steel from the blade. I think the ceramic is some...

Re: A quick hello and some help with knife ID :)

Trout Hound - Yeah, I do see what you mean, been trying it out today, and it does cut through fibres like nothing I've used, really impressive, although I've never sharpened a serrated edge, so I'm hoping it'll stay sharp for while until I learn :) There are several good ways to sharpen a serrated ...
