Re: KaBar/Becker BK40 uses a Spyderco wire clip or ripoff?

Doubt the idea could have been or was ever patented by Spyderco. Even if it was, their first knife with a wire clip was the Q and that was 20+ years ago. So, assuming the design was patented, the patent would have expired.

Re: Ll. Bean boots any good?

Fifty some years ago I bought a pair in their store in Freeport ME the first time a group of us were heading up to New Brunswick to hunt deer and bear and wore them pretty much every hunting season for the next twenty years or so.

Re: poll: preference of production or exclusives/sprints?

Don't care anymore. Back when I was building my collection, I favored Sprints because it was always made clear roughly how many would be produced. Nowadays, I confine my purchases to new versions of a couple models I favor and will buy pretty much any new variant of those that comes out. On the othe...

Re: Why would one want to become a Correctional officer

Would that even work? I shudder to think. In a more evolved fantasy world perhaps. Yep. In the real world, the only way you could abolish incarceration would be to replace it to purely physical punishment administered immediately upon conviction. Caning for minor offenses, loss of an ear, hand, foo...

Re: Why would one want to become a Correctional officer

Where I grew up many get into it because it is one of the few good jobs around. This was in way upstate NY. Was never a CO, but worked as a civilian in several maximum security Correctional Facilities for five years in upstate NY. The jobs I had were not in the front office, they were "in popu...

They don't want to get sued. That's it.

You're probably right, but it can backfire. Are you less liable or more liable if you have, for example, a "no knives" rule and someone gets stabbed anyway? Look at how much did screwing up Roof's background check just cost the Feds.

Re: Daylight Saving Time Poll

My answer would be: "Pick One And Stick With It". As a retiree I don't really care which, either would fit my lifestyle. OTOH, the older I get, the more I find the twice a year changes annoying. Frankly, I keep all of my clocks that don't change on their own on DST year round and maintain ...

Re: Exotic Woods For Knife Handles?

Well JD, as an one old guy who loves knives with wood handles and stainless blades, I guess I'm one of the exceptions. :smlling-eyes As for your question, I'm guessing there are three primary reasons why we don't see more wood on production knives. One is "political correctness" that puts ...

Re: Inflation - The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

I expect European levels of taxation soon. Then you will really see prices increases since the consumer pays as costs are always pushed down to the consumer. Exactly. Too many people don't seem to understand that "taxing the rich" is really taxing the middle class and to a lesser extent t...

Re: Urban size discussion

This is probably none of my business, as I don't carry non-locking folders. That said, while I can understand someone passing up a 2.6" bladed knife because it would put them at odds with their local laws, I have a much harder time understanding why someone would consider a tenth of an inch so ...

Re: Sprint Runs of Obscure Models Maybe???

The problem with most "obscure" models is that they're obscure because they never sold well. Beyond that, some of those mentioned have been out of production for so long tooling may no longer exist, and at least one other was a collaboration with a designer that parted ways with Spyderco l...

Nobody believes the earth is flat. It is a movement being astroturfed to delegitimize other conspiracy theories.

Possibly, or it could just be a way to thumb one's nose at science, the way the Flying Spaghetti Monster movement does with religion.

Might not be the all time champ among Spydercos but the OD Green FRN C16 Goddard Lightweight Sprint Run has to be a contender for that honor. It weighs 2.9 oz and has a 3.44" edge and 3.66" total blade length.

Voted no but the true is, assuming popular implies current, then pretty much the only two models I would not want to see with a cobra hood are the Stretch and Chaparral. None of Spyderco's other current offerings really appeal to me enough for me to care one way or the other about cobra hooded vari...

Re: Textbook HISTORY: How Accurate Is It?

In general, history is written by the winners, so it's likely there has almost always been some bias toward the winner's "side" of the story.
