In theory, the ease of sharpness wouldn't matter, as I simply asked for the sharpest edge possible. However, in practice, it does matter because if I don't have the skill or tools to reach that theoretical sharpness, it's pointless. :D So yes, ease of sharpening should factor into the equation. Thanks for the replies, and thanks for the welcome. Cliff, may I ask what you mean by tilting horizontally? (My limited vocabulary concerning 'planes and axis' creates confusion sometimes.) After sharpening on belts for a while, I pulled out my Sharpmaker. Am I supposed to raise vertically the handle as I bring the blade down the stone when using the flat side? Or am I supposed to keep the spine of the blade more or less parallel to the surface? Or am I supposed to move the handle slig...
