My SB Dragonfly 2 reshape journey

Hello all, Ever since Spyderco released the SB DF2, I was all over it. I ordered 2, 1 for backup in case I ever lost it, and 1 to carry obviously. It's been by my side more than any other knife. I love this thing. This knife has been through a lot with me. Taking a trip to Illinois to visit family, ...

Maintaining with high grit waterstone

Hey guys, just a quick question... I EDC a DF2 in Super Blue and don't really use it that much. Just minor EDC tasks, opening up mail, boxes, breaking down boxes, etc.. Can I use my Suehiro Rika 5k to do a few strokes to touch it up without setting a burr, etc..? Or would a UF benchstone be better f...

Thanks for the replies guys! Appreciate it!

To better explain the "overtravel"...

-blade opens and locks (normal click)
-blade play only pushing blade down, and when I do push blade down, locks more? (faint click)
-after this, no blade play at all

Just got in my ZDP DF2, couple questions!

First off, I wanna say wow. This thing is stupid sharp. I've heard the term "laser sharp" before and never experienced it before but with this...wow. I opened up some mail earlier with it and I could barely hear the paper slicing. Anyway, I love it and it will take over as my EDC. I've rea...

Thanks man. I'm hoping I figured it out haha. I still want to mess with the edge on this Opinel to get my technique fully down. I kinda want to mess around and try to get a convex edge on this thing using the glass stones.

Thanks Cliff. Your kind words actually make me not give up :p Welp, I made an edge on my Opinel no. 6 that before, was completely nonexistent. I got it to be able to slice newspaper and phone book paper relatively easily only using the 500 glass stone. It can also take hairs off my arm at the right ...

That is just amazing that you were able to do that on a clay brick :o

Not sure what I'm doing, but I did what your video showed and it just made the knife incredibly dull :(

You must have the magic touch Cliff lol. Might as well stick to the Sharpmaker :p

Thanks for all the help Cliff! I really appreciate it! I'll be sure to get over that nervousness. I have an Opinel that seriously doesn't even have an edge. I'll probably practice on that.

Are there any videos on making the apex? I tried looking but only found videos on the Edge Pro Apex :P

Thanks guys. I'm guessing I never established the apex since I can't see or feel a burr. Any tips on creating that apex? I'm afraid to remove too much metal I notice when I sharpen.

Freehand sharpening question

Hi guys, just put an edge on my XHP Native. It isn't perfect but it's only my second edge that I've put on a knife. Used Shapton Glass 500, 1k, 4k, 8k and KP strop. It looks good enough for me although around the ricasso you can see some dissimilarities. http://i.imgur.com/tBBQRCth.jpg My question i...

Which stones did you order? I use Shapton glass 320, 1k, 4k, 8k bench stones. I also use the Spyderco fine and UF for quick touch ups. I have DMT XC-EF also. I really like these stones but seldom use them now. Depending on which grits you got ordered, I'd suggest a DMT X-coarse as an economical coa...

Anyone have the cojones to "hard use" their Dragonfly 2?

I've recently revisited and finally fully appreciated the Dragonfly 2 this weekend. I've had two of the VG-10 and gifted both. I know, I know...I should of kept the first one. But lesson learned. This little guy is amazing. Now I'm wondering if anyone has actually used their Dfly 2 for some hard use...

Wow Cliff, thank you very much for the great explanation! Very kind of you! I'll definitely check those stones out. If I don't go the water stone route, will the DMT set (C, F, XF) be suffienct to learn more on? EDIT: Might get the Sigma Power set available at toolsfromjapan. These stones seem highl...

Oops, mostly CTS-XHP, CPM-S30V, CPM-S35VN, ZDP-189, SB and VG-10. But I wouldn't mind owning a knife in M4 or M390.

Completely forgot to mention that! Sorry!

Thanks Chris. I was almost positive I wouldn't need anything lower than 1000.

Cost wise, going with the DMT C, F, EF and the 306UF is definitely cheaper. I was thinking of going that route as well. Oh my, the choices :o

Any recommendation to get that high polish edge?

Can we talk about stones?

What's up guys. I'm interested in freehand sharpening. It just seems fun and relaxing to me. Not to knock the products out there, as I love the SM, but something about freehanding intrigues me. I've been researching alllll day and I believe I know what to get. I'm looking into getting the Shapton Gl...
