A Spyderco saves baby whale.

On today's evening news was an article about a baby Humpback whale. http://khon2.com/2014/12/12/crews-free-entangled-humpback-whale-off-maui/ I am sure you will recognized the backward facing blade with it's prominent thumb hole. Nice to see your work doing it's job. Huh, Sal The baby had been attac...

Re: My DragonFly2 Salt has what appears to b cracks in the b

These are most likely scratches that you, or someone else, inadvertently got on the blade while using the knife and did not notice them. The fact that they are parallel also speaks to that. H1 scratches if you look at it wrong. In other words, it scratches very, very easily. Gee Doc Dan, before you...

Re: My DragonFly2 Salt has what appears to b cracks in the b

Where did you purchase the knife? Given that there are counterfeit Dragonfly Salts on the market, and that the steel quality of those is dubious at best, that's always a possibility unless the knife was purchased new from a reputable dealer. Really, that is a good point. H1 is one of the toughest s...

By the same method I use to identify a Buffalo chip, experience.
Plus these cracks run in a straight line and parallel to each other.

Re: My DragonFly2 Salt has what appears to b cracks in the b

The last time I had a problem and took pictures, I was accused of trying to embarrass the Spyderco family. I had not included the pic on this forum, only a way to see them off line. I am not looking for a warranty repair. I will sent the knife to for your review, if you feel I caused the problem I w...

My DragonFly2 Salt has what appears to b cracks in the blade

I have had this knife for only a few months. It as been sharpened with the SharpMaker, opened a few envelops and generally kept very protected in my sock drawer. These cracks run in side by side from the tip back, about 1/2 inch. Those at the front are closer than 1/16". These are not scratches...

Re: RIT dye job on G10 gone wrong

What is the G10 made of? If it is nylon, you should have great results. Wash with a small amount of liquid dish detergent. I prefer Dawn. Use a small hand brush or tooth brush. What did you use to hold the solution in? I use a medium (1-1.5 gallon) Plastic paint pail. A glass bowl or SS sink. Heat t...

The Deacon,
For my further edification, what is the process for RIT dying? Does one just submerge the knife handle (an assembled knife)? Time of submersion to completely get a black handle?

Thanks

The part in bold is confusing Are you saying the manbug you sent in was fake because zdp rusted? That doesn't make sense, but that also doesn't line up with your other quote below asking for a refund or replacement. I hope it works out for you. Bad typing on my part.it was supposed to say "I t...

I've been to that area in HI myself...dry doesn't even come close to describing it. I live in Colorado, and frequently visit Wyoming. These areas are actually "dry." Also, while moist air is one problem, the salt in the air and on everything is very corrosive. That's why the "Salt&qu...

Well, still no satisfaction. After 3 more emails, 2 phone calls with messages left to please call me. Nothing. How expensive is an email? A simple phone call? I am very disgusted with Spyderco's Customer service or should I say lack of customer service. Sal, your company has had my Manbug, zdp-189 s...

Thank you for your replies. Concerning my statement, "this knife is not supposed to rust" is based on the amount of Chromium (CR) contained in the recipe. Chromium (Cr) - Added for increased wear resistance, hardness, tensile strength, and (most importantly) for corrosion resistance. Cr fo...

My missing Manbug, when are you coming home?

I hate to write this thread but what I have done on my own has not succeeded. In April, this year, I purchased a Manbug Lightweight, British Racing Green, ZDP-189 from Amazon. What a little beauty, for a while. One day I was looking into the case and saw what looked like rust. Wait a minute, this kn...

I just bought an Endura4 black blade combination. What do I need to know?

Well it is time to get another Spyderco knife. For me, it is not easy to select the perfect knife . Just too many to choose from. I finally settled on an Endura4,C10PSBBK. What a beauty. Is there anything I need to know about sharpening with my Spyderco Tri-Angle Sharpmaker? I can't wait until Frida...

Sharpening my Manbug, ZDP-189. 30 degree or 40 degree with a Sharpmaker.

I read the instructions BUT, I have a good sharp blade with the 40 degree setting. Will I get a better edge with the 30 degree setting. I have the two brown and two white triangles that came with the Sharpmaker, plus I bought the ultra fine, 204 UF1.

Nice knife fits my big hand well.

I just received my new Manbug ZDP-189. WOW

I am a newbie when it comes to knives. Not the old jack knife I owned when I was 10 and we played mumblety-peg. Yes sir, now 57 years later, I have a knife that is definitely a cut above. (pun intended). I have read a lot reviews in this forum and most were helpful. I am on a limited budget now so i...
