Re: Steel Wedding Bands

My dad always wore his ring on a chain too. I don't know what habit I'll get into. I'm not one to do anything consistently, especially if I find it in the slightest bit inconvenient. Heck, I don't even carry a knife at least a couple days a year! We'll see, but I'm not too concerned about that. I st...

Re: Steel Wedding Bands

Yeah, everything has its set of cons. Gold and silver scratch too, tungsten is way harder to grind off, silicone...is silicone. Have you seen these wood ones? Ceramic?! Careful with that one! They're all silly. Honestly, the whole concept is silly, and not just wearing a ring, I mean marriage! But w...

Re: Steel Wedding Bands

Or heck, if I were going to scrap a knife, I'd just get a used beater and it would be even cheaper. I wonder what it's like to rework, though. Probably not bad if you have a hot enough forge and a big enough hammer. Or a small enough hammer...

Steel Wedding Bands

There are a lot of really cool materials for wedding bands being used out there, but I come from this forum so naturally the only thing that makes sense to me is steel. Damascus seems popular, and maybe I'll go that route, but how cool would it be to get some of our favorite knife steels made into w...

Re: Extreme LC200N (Accidental) Corrosion Test

Also, as I understand it, the liners are made from LC200N not 316. Something I just realized... In the first picture I posted you can see a slotted screw going into the hull. It's either 316 or 304, and has been there for a decade or more with no corrosion. Not sure why they wouldn't just use 316 f...

Re: Extreme LC200N (Accidental) Corrosion Test

Very interesting. I would not think that corrosion had anything to do with the lock breaking, and I don't know what you mean by hardening. Work hardening requires deformation and I don't think there's such a thing as corrosive hardening, and even if it were a thing there's plenty of material left as...

Just so it isn't something ancient like GIn-1, AUS-8 or 440A
But what if it's something ancient like S60V?

Re: Shipping of internal parts

I just sent my Southard in for a bearing job. I would have much rather purchased them or even just been directed to a third party supplier so I could do it myself and saved everyone a bunch of time (I guess mostly saving me the time that I am apart from one of my absolute favorites). It's not quite ...

Re: Factory Seconds Sale Follow-up

Wow, I am impressed. I was pretty underwhelmed by the way this all went, but taking the time to put it all into context like this makes a huge difference. I maintain my position that the online sale should remain a measure of last resort (even if it means I don't get to play), but my naturally overa...

Re: What did you use your Spyderco for last?

This thread is getting a bump cuz I am so thankful for Spyderedge today. It was 30°F outside while I was trying to repair my well system, and even with a heat gun I was just not getting 1-1/4" plastic pipes off of barbed fittings so I just cut them. I used a saw to cut the lines off, but I need...

Re: 2020 Seconds Sale - BREAKING NEWS

I doubt that. It's like a garage sale - you sell a bunch of stuff that you paid retail for at 2 cents on the dollar and think you made money. Seconds Sale prices may be a little over manufacturing cost, but they aren't much over. Factor in the huge amount of (overtime) labor that goes into a sale a...

Re: Recs for Self Defense while running/biking?

Best self defense while running? Run faster! Really though, if I carry a knife running it's the Pacific Salt. They're linerless so they're very light for their size, and rustproof so my sweat doesn't destroy them. I clip it inside the waistband of my shorts and it works great. The Tasman would be ev...

Re: 2020 Seconds Sale - BREAKING NEWS

While I eventually found a weird masochistic enjoyment in the experience, I really don't know how I feel about how this went. I'm not sure whether they just decided to pull the plug early or legitimately miscalculated the inventory, but between the technical difficulties and the sudden unanticipated...

Yeah really I wasn't mashing refresh, but it went from normal immediate load speed to connection timeout in under a minute. I know they're battling bots best they can, but I think some bots are still getting through. Really don't know though. Only ebay will tell.

Re: 2020 Seconds Sale - BREAKING NEWS

Hah! I did it! Jammed a blurple through checkout which triggered an automatic Parata purchase. And really, shame on you all for being so mean to the Parata! I know it looks weird as hell, but can't you see that handle just melting into your hand? I gotta give it a shot.

Re: Spyderco Online Seconds Sale FAQ

On the shopping cart page it says: "We offer free shipping in the Continental U.S. on orders $150 or more." On the sale page it says: "...each order will be processed as a separate transaction. They cannot be consolidated." So does this mean that if you order five knives that ad...

Re: 2020 Seconds Sale - BREAKING NEWS

I just ordered a Parata out of frustration. At least it was easy to get. I feel so bad for it. It's lasted two drops now! I have one in my cart, but I don't want it bad enough to pay shipping for it. If it lasts till the next drop and there's something else I want, I'll get one. Otherwise, it just ...

Re: Spyderco Online Seconds Sale FAQ

What's CS? I don't know how AWS would be utilized in a situation like this, but my guess would be they would have to host the sale meaning Spyderco would have to move or setup an entire new store on AWS servers which sounds like it might take more time than they had. I really don't know how this stu...

Re: Spyderco Online Seconds Sale FAQ

A suggestion: Maybe a way to add more than one knife to the cart from the front page? I added a Z-Cut right off the bat, then tried to go back to see what else was there, and it timed out (and emptied my cart). Then I tried to buy a Sun/Moon Chap twice, but didn't dare go back to add the Z-Cut I wa...

Re: Poll for alternating annual seconds sales between online and in-person

I'd love an east coast in-person sale! I'll drive within 12 hours to do it every year. Golden is more like 24, and is much more of a scheduling challenge. Love a good road trip though, and really hoping I get to make it out there next year. Here's hoping we can all breathe on each other again soon!
