Re: Fixed Blade Hawkbill: We Need To Talk

A hawkbill with a deep curve is problematic on the sheath. Either difficult to deploy or very wide. sal Well Mr. Glesser would something along the lines of the old SUPERHAWK model in curve and degrees be more suitable for a possible sheath set up?? Also on my old "Now's The Time: For A New Haw...

Re: Fixed Blade Hawkbill: We Need To Talk

Hi JD, While I admire your interest and passion, I'll admit that I'm not in a hurry to meet your request. Hawkbills are a small market at best and I don't have much faith in plain edge Hawkbills as working tools. I agree with suggestions that an existing design (Enuff, Swick, etc.) would be a bette...

Re: Fixed Blade Hawkbill: We Need To Talk

Oh, and a sharpened swedge on the forward edge of the blade for slicing open platic wrap and junk. I don't see the Swick working for anything but a reverse hawkbill, but with the forward edge sharpened a bit aswell it adds some extra functionality. This was done on the Ceya's Hawk . The back of the...

Re: Fixed Blade Hawkbill: We Need To Talk

A hawkbill with a deep curve is problematic on the sheath. Either difficult to deploy or very wide. sal This was a problem in my design that Ed Chavar (Rip) and I had come to solve somewhat. I have used mine in the Corps to test and had others to test for me. It was the resheathing was a little mor...

Re: Mr. Wayne Goddard passes

I have personally known Mr Goddard and his wife since the early 90. As most know my favorite Spyderco is the Goddard. I recently tried to reach out to him by email , could not find his old number . I wanted him to make a fixed blade version of the Goddard Jr. Mrs Phyllis as I called her would give m...

Good news found drawing of 2nd drawing of the Hawk, with pen drawing of it as a folder.

Bad news knives are not where they were supposed to be at now.

Give me a week to search.

Re: Now's the time: For a New Hawkbill!!!

I just gave examples , of what steels and materials can be used on the Ceya's Hawks. The need depends on the use of the knife. My designs are not stuck to one steel (custom made knife). There are things that was done and not done on the Ceya's Hawk. I had a more pronounced hook for the head but this...

Re: Now's the time: For a New Hawkbill!!!

It can go many ways, single grind like most Japanese blades, Hollow grind and Flat grind. I prefer the original method made. Also thought about handle material etc. G10, Micarta and a few others. Also steel options H1, Ats 34, D2 etc Serrations can be top part as in original , also as Spyderco 40 /6...

Re: Now's the time: For a New Hawkbill!!!

Funny you ask about the Spyderedge, it was included in the original design.

It was located on the bird head of the blade. But since we wanted to keep it simple for the first knife I just put a almost sharpened edge.

Re: Now's the time: For a New Hawkbill!!!

I will design a Ceya's Hawk 2 with all the changes that was to be done over 15 years ago.

I will reread all the old posts on this and find a maker since David Mosier is really busy.

Re: Now's the time: For a New Hawkbill!!!

Thanks again.

Will try to design a smaller one.

I hope Dialex and Chad will chime in.

The 3 Amigos will ride again.

I'm the only one so far who had not been picked up by a company.

Maybe it can happen JD.

It is in my drawer with all other of my designs.

Except the for two that were stolen by the post office in 2007.

Haven't touch it in 5 yrs.

The original maker Edward V.CHAVAR, Is no longer with us.
He passed away . He was a student of Bud Nealy
