Re: Blue Loctite and FRN

I normally use purple Loctite on the small screws. Still plenty strong to keep screws in place, but easier to unscrew when needed. The smaller the screw, the more apparent this is.

FRN is chemically resistant to many things. No worry with Loctite.

Re: Don't do this with your Maxamet

I don't know of any steel that would not be damaged by an impact like that.

At least you weren't scoring drywall.

Re: Knife materials and Covid-19, et. al

The Chlorox wipes have quaternary amines, not bleach, so they are not as corrosive.

Re: Knife materials and Covid-19, et. al

I wouldn't over think it. Getting any disease from your knife handle is unlikely unless someone with that disease used your knife immediately before you, and even then that transmission path is not as simple as it seems. In any case, G10 is epoxy resin reinforced with glass fibers, and FRN is nylon ...

Re: CPM SPY27 steel

SPY27 has 1% Niobium and 2% vanadium, compared with 0% and maybe 0.2%, respectively, for VG-10. There should be a noticeable difference between them, especially if they run the SPY27 hardness higher.

Re: Unbelievable lost and found story. Purchased in 1989, Lost in 1995, showed up in my mailbox in 2020.

What good fortune. There are certainly things that I would like to find that have been missing for many years. Sal's story reminded me of something that happened a long time ago somewhere around 1984. My brother and I were hiking up a steep mountain slope off-trail and there was a lot of snow on the...

Re: REX 45 and other "rustprone" toolsteels: Corrosion and by that dulling on the very apex - is it an issue in regular

The concern about edge degradation due to corrosion is what kept me away from tool steels for many years. However in the last few years I have used M4 and Rex 45. I have taken both steels on backpacking trips. The only issue I have had is spotting on the blade where sweat condensed on it in my pocke...

The maroon forum knife is S90V, so you have already branched out from S35VN.

Re: Native 5 Lightweight Rex 45

I like the Para 3, but the Native 5 fits my hand better than any other model. It is the the most comfortable in hard use when real force is being applied. This is compared with the Para 3, PM2, Military, Sebenza and Inkosi (large and small). I don't have the G10 version, just the lightweight. Some h...

Re: REX45 Para 3 Lightweight

I'm guessing everything is out of stock now, BladeHQ suspended my account and canceled my order :( It seems to have dried up. The impression I have is that there were not all that many made. They appeared at various sites from time to time, but they were gone pretty much immediately. I had email no...

Re: M390 vs 20CV vs 204P - 3rd Generation Powder Metallurgy

Thanks, Larrin, I'm glad you did this. Hopefully this will help dispel the "M390 is better because it is third generation" belief that seems to be common. They all use a third generation process, their own proprietary modification of the second generation process, and call it different things. Only ...

Re: PARA3 with aftermarket clip question

I have the Lynch deep carry for the Para 3 and it carries about the same as the MXG pictured above.

I use the standard clip and carry tip down.
