Re: Recommendations for a European traditionalist

... As Wartstein said, our minister of interior affairs just announced they are working on a bill to restrict knives basically the same way as Germany or the UK does, so if this bill should pass it's going to be a UK PK or Lil Native Slipit anyways :) .... Man, we can´t let that happen! This is not...

Re: Upping the price.

I wonder whether the tools our forbears had to buy were any cheaper relative to their incomes?

Has anyone got an old Sears catalogue, to compare?

Re: Any recommendations?

The UKPK would be a good choice, I think. It’s enough blade to be useful, and enough handle to be easy to draw, manipulate and hold.

Great steel choices, and a serrated option, too (that one’s a cutting demon).

Re: AI art knows Spyderco

I can see a bunch of legal issues with AI. Patents and trademarks, etc. sal This is already a big issue in many industries including mine. The question is whether the output of the AI is the actual end product or just a tool/resource used to produce something. Where do designers get inspiration? Ar...

Re: AI art knows Spyderco

Perhaps it’s a reflection of the mediocrity of many contemporary artistic & design endeavours that AI can compete with it. “Design by numbers” is always “Design by numbers” whether it’s created by machines or limited talent. They merely copy what has gone before without moving the game forward. ...

Re: New motorcycle day …

I saw the latest iterations at the London Motorcycle Shoe last month. Very nice bikes. They’ve re-engineered quite a bit, with big Indian investment, after the previous owners financial and customer service misdemeanours.

Re: New motorcycle day …

Thanks, guys.

I’ve a BMW 1200 r9t for the road, but this is just for fun on the “green lanes” -historic roadways that were never metalled.

I suspect there will be a steep learning curve!

You can’t have too many motorcycles, right?

Re: Poetry

The poem at the end is very moving.

The film is about one of the raids on the area my very elderly father lived in at the time as a schoolboy.

New motorcycle day …

Just a little Beta Alp 200. It uses the old Suzuki DR200 mill so should be bombproof. Only 108kg /238 lbs and 15bhp!

Not brand new - that would be foolish for someone of my limited expertise - it’s a 2022 model.

Re: Upping the price.

I have always found that I can readily sell Spyderco on the secondary market without losing much overall. They cost a lot, but sell for a lot. There’s not many “value” brands that can match that.

Re: Masters of the Air

I will try to watch that. My elderly father had ground crew billetted with his family in WW2 because they lived close to the airfields. He recalls the men coming home in distressed states after having to hose out the beaten up bombers that made it home, and seeing the plumes of smoke and flames of t...
